how do you give your editing speed?

my comp is really good. x600 pci-express card, 1 gb ram, 250 gb hardrive. i have adobe premier and i am working on a video. it has alot of lip-sync on it. now mostly, it works fine. but i notice a few times when i get a lot of little cut up frame by frames, or special effects, it skips and lags alot. is there anyway to improve it? i saw before that someone was using 2 comps. is this the only way to do it and, if so, how is this accomplished? thanks

one tip is to compress your source footage with an intraframe codec rather than an interframe codec while editing.

Render preview files of the relevant areas and they should play back better.

Whenever that happens to me I just start exporting what I have completed and encoding it so I can check the sync.
However that's also how I ended up making 2 amv's with 13 drafts each before the final one was ready.

It also might be because of the temperature of your processor.
So as you work on it longer the playback will skip more.

Move the little vertical red line one frame at a time instead of pressing the "play" button.

Problem solved.
