trying to use both ram!

Postby Unlimited Rice » Fri Aug 19, 2005 9:19 pm

ok, i've got a DFI Lanparty nF4 Ultra-D mother board and I've got Corsair RAM(TWINX1024-3200C2PT)

what I'm tryign to do is get my computer to work with both in dual channel. To do dual channel, it says that I have to put the RAM sticks in the 2nd and 4th slots..

and so I did. but then it wouldn't boot up..so I took the ram from the 4th slot out.. and it works out fine..

I kept trying to find a way for my comp to work with both of my ram sticks.. not just one.. and well, someone told me to try setting the ram voltage up.

at default, the ram voltage was at 2.60 V. I tried bringing it up to 2.70V and 2.80V, but neither worked

2.90V however, I got it to work, it seemd to work fine.. but then if I make the comp do something like installing a program or game.. the comp just reboots...

does anyone know what my problem is? or what i should do? set the voltage higher? or change other settings to complement with the change of the ram voltage??

Perhaps you're trying to run your RAMs faster than their rated speed? Either clock is too fast (like 200MHz on DDR333 chips) or timings are incorrect (like CL2 on CL 2.5 chips).

Speeds and timings can be set in your bios.

Don't increase the voltage anymore, I'd say 2.90V was quite dangerous.

[edit] oh they are ddr400 and cl2. Nicely fast...
They're identical too? Weird, then.

hmm.. yeah, after finding some bios suggestions off various forums and trying'em out.. now I can't get to my bios settings anymore

my screen just says some "Self Test" thing and then something like "Monitor is fine" and then "check ur video cable or pc"

... wtf now

Do as it suggests, and check them?

You may have screwed up your BIOS. Consider a BIOS reset.

This may sound stupid, or maybe you've already tried it even. But say you had RAM module "A" in slot 2 and "B" in slot 4, and this wasn't working you said. Taking "B" out of slot 4 did work though. Have you tried swapping them so "B" was in slot 2 and "A" in slot 4?

You may want to follow Kalium's suggestion of resetting your BIOS though anyway.

I reset the bios and then found someone who had the same stuff as mine and told me to update the bios..

and well.. my floppy drive won't read any disk.. any disk I put in.. and when I try to get in it.. I keep getting the "Please enter a floppy into the drive" type of message..

it's as if the floppy disks weren't in there...

Either your floppy drive is bad, or its ribbon cable is backwards.

Try flipping the ribbon cable. If that doesn't help, replace the floppy drive. (If it's not under warranty, a new one will cost around US$10.)

flashed the bios to the lastest version and now the comp works fine with both ram now... without the changing of voltage.. just the timing.
