Still Using Windows Movie Maker

Postby Our Lost Trust » Sat May 14, 2005 12:33 pm

Before we start- yes, I indeed have been to http://www.animemusicvideos.org/help/hardware/

Now that that has been settled, I have used WMM for the past 2-3 years. I really like how much control I have over its many effects and transitions (although some could bear a bit more), and how easy and comprehensable it is to work.

However, I have some gripes:

Crashing- I am constantly restarting the program and/or my computer, I find myself constantly saving knowing that in about 5 more minutes I'll have to open the file over again.
After a while, the files I've imported "die" and I must import and edit them anew.
Freezing: After a while of importing and editing, parts of the clips "freeze" while they are being played. This is another reason I restart the program, import, and re-edit constantly.

I am making an AMV for my friend's birthday and am thinking of submitting an AMV here (since most of my AMVs end up being filled with inside jokes between me and my friends). So I think it's time to move on in search for a better AMV making program.

Taking into account my gripes and loves of WMM- does anyone have any recommendations?

upgrade to wmm 2.1 if you haven't yet.
save often, like after every edit you make.
when you want to preview, you may need to export the movie to wmv and watch it in windows media player.
for reference, wmm isn't hardware, it's software.
don't type in red please.
and shrink your signature image to 2 40x600 images please.

More memory seems to help. It doesn't seem to lock up as much if you are using mpeg1 files but I've had good luck with divx files. Turn off your anti virus seems to help, actually turning off anything you don't need helps, I think wmm is a resource hog or is writing to memory used by other applications. Also save, save, save.
Where did you say I'm going?.... And what am I doing in a handbasket?

I have used WMM for some time but it's really bad because it's makes quality of the video worse and it ruins the quality of the music too. I also think WMM is easy to control and stuff but i suggest Sony Foundry Vegas
i'm like you.. i have no name

here's a good tip. Dont post with red as the font colour. Actualy, unless its absolutely nessesary for some wierd reason, dont change the font colour at all. It makes reading a real pain on the eyes.

What kind of clips (what format and codec)?

It's best to work with uncompressed PCM audio and video that doesn't use inter-frame (temporal) compression (which means no DivX, XviD, 3ivX, MS MPEG-4, WMV, etc.; MPEG-1 is easier for WMM to work with but still not recommended).
