Video card

Postby GreenT » Sun Feb 13, 2005 7:19 pm

My friend recently got a new computer that's now better then mine. So I asked what kind of stuff he has starting with his video card. So he checked out what it's called, and he said it was a VIA/S3G UniChrome IGP. Now I thought, "wtf?" since I had no idea what it was, so I decided to google it. I didn't learn very much about it, so I was wondering. Is this video card good, or does he have to get a new one?

S3 is up there with Matrox...in every way

meaning it sucks in 3d but it's the absolute BEST in 2d and video decoding in fact after MANY tests (Sav4, Blade3d, Voodoo3, G550, Radeon SDR, Sav2000, R7500, R9000, R9600) the S3 Sav4 is STILL the king of cpu usage (lowest, the best) when it comes to watching videos o.0. Though the worst card was only at like 20-30% usage at worse so that's not saying much... about the only thing that has mattered was 3d for the past decade.

Anyway the S3 Savage 4 came before the S3/ Via (Via has bought S3 since then) Unicrome still the story on the unicrome is 'it' (meaning the 3d since most ppl only think about the 3d!) sucks. Bottom line, S3 has it's followers, me included ;p, so if you don't like it you can just piss off!

. The VIA/S3G UniChrome IGP allows you to Capture and Play
TV programs like "Cinderella Institute" ( the Winx Club ) and many
other "motion re-tracing in 3D" TV Series.

It is an "extreamely low-end" Video Card, but WinXP can compansate
for that little oversite. ^_^

Nvidea 32 -or- 64 are very good cards that do not cost much and handle 3D.

point? ..... stick with Nvidea and you'll be fine ^_^

- just my opinion
