Oh, and as far as hardware goes, you'll probably want reliable RAM, and lots of it.
Hard disk space is nice too; aim for at least 200 GB. More is always better.
There's a lot that factors into hardware decisions. I suggest doing research about the following topics:
- hard drive subsystems, RAID
- cooling (which is, sadly, often neglected)
- graphics boards
- display devices, aspect ratios, color calibration
- video-specific hardware, just so you know that it exists (i.e. real-time effects processors, hardware decoders, specialized input devices such as the Shuttle, etc)
