i hate dell too, but im running a dell dimension 4550 rite now<--with must of the parts upgraded and/or switched out from the original

dell... yeah they are basically a prebuilt computer and u can choose to basically add more value to the machine by ramming more junk into it... i meant like a site where the laptop has a screen and functional parts but is like hollow i went to http://www.newgenpc.com and it basically has computers like that; but thats like the only site i found...

Is this the kind of site you're looking for ?
http://www.pcclub.com/systems_notebooks.cfm

Compaq (HP) is set up the same way that Dell is for configuring laptops - if you prefer to avoid Dell.

I know half a dozen people with different models of Dell Inspirons, so I wouldn't mind having one myself. Except that Dell's constantly changing prices drive me crazy.

BTW, my laptop is one of those Averatech mini's (12") that I bought barely-used from a friend. They're nice machines, very small and light, but I don't think I can recommend them. Mine has a knack for randomly rebooting; aka crashing to full blue screen.
