Video Card Predicament

Postby vyper28 » Fri Jan 23, 2004 3:30 am

Ok heres the deal, my union where i work bitched at my company, and my company bitched back, and there was bloodshed and violence and loss of pensions, and loss of jobs and loss of heads, ect ect. Typical union negotiation. So in the end we got a payout! sooo now i have some extra cash laying around. I have 2 comps currently, and im looking to upgrade my shit box! (the worst of the two)

Specs:
asus p4b motherboard (intel 845 chipset)
p4 2.8ghz
512mb DDR Ram
Intergrated Audio
Nvidea Gforce2 Mx/MX 400 (heres where it hurts)

Ok so its a POS For 3 reasons so far.
1.) Intergrated Audio BLOWS CHUNKS.
2.) Its a pentium. My other comp is Athalon, and it doesnt screw up all the time, i think my processor is retarded!
3.)THE VIDEO CARD!!! Gforce2 MX!!! HAHAHA. i takes me like a day to encode a vcd. saddddddd.

So i need some help choosing my replacements. Im not going to replace the processor, because thats a bit steep for now, and if im gonna upgrade it, im gonna go all out. I dont want to spend too much on an sound card, because its not a vital at the moment. The video card is my main Focus right now! So ive got it narrowed down to 2 possible video cards.
I can get:

ATI All-in-Wonder Radeon 9600 Pro 128MB DDR AGP8X w/S-Video & Dual Monitor Out (Box) for $295 (Canadian)

or

ATI Radeon 9600 XT 256MB DDR AGP8X w/S-Video & DVI-I OEM for ($245)

does any1 have either of these crads, and can give me a preformance idea? Im leaning towards the first one right now because it comes with alot of different hookups for TV/DVD/VCR/everything else, recording. And i can turn it into a "pause live television" box too. Suggestions?

id suggest the first one becouse its also a capture card and the 9600+ prolly ever wont use 256mb of ram so thats not really neccesary on the second one. i have the second one ur talking about and i really like the preformance but like i said i dont see a point of giveing a 9600 256ddr. but the preformance of the 9600 is really nice

vyper that box is not shitty. Where are you located exactly? Those vid card prices are a bit steep if they're in $$US$$ funds. Pricewatch is your friend.

You can get a 9600XT for $155US. 9600XT will give you about 4x performance over your Geforce2mx.

Sound you should look for the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz, Audigy 2 or an M-Audio Revolution 7.1. All of which are good cards.

madmag>> I wouldn't do that, you'd have to use your TV out for that and you'd be limited to a certain res, as well as having craptacular quality.

yea i know useing svideo the quality wouldnt be good but it can be done and still i just found out 2 moniters work on it. i tried it befor but i was sorta computer ratarded and couldnt get it working.
and i think that the prices he listed are in canadian so they arent bad

If you have the money and the box you're upgrading is a gaming box, get a 9700Pro or 9800Pro. DON'T GET AN SE VERSION CARD.

And that box...isnt shit.

I'm still running on an Athlon XP 1700, Abit KG7-RAID (AMD761 North / Via south), Radeon 9000 Pro and an Audigy 2 with 512MB of RAM. :P

yeah, im from Canada so the prices are all Canadian. Since the first acts as a tuner it looks appealing. This PC isnt used as much for gaming ata ll, thats what my other one is for. I use this one for most of my video editing stuff. Unless freinds come over, then we play CS on LAN or BF1942 on LAN, but thats pretty well it. Since its main purpose is video editing, i would think the AIW would suit better. Thanks for the input though. If Someone reads this thread and has the 9600xt can i get an oppinion? ive got one for the other card!

and i know its not "shit" persay, just the parts i pointed out. But im relating it to my other comp. which is much faster.
Other comps specs:

Athlon 64 FX-51
1gig DDR Ram
Creative Labs Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro 7.1
Asus v9950 Ultra-VTD GFX-5900 Ultra 256MB DDR 8xAGP
ect ect.

Its my Baby.

You can have 2 monitors or a monitor and a TV but 2 monitors and a tv won't work.

no problem. i dont think there is a preformance diff between the 9600 and the all in wonder just the all in wonder comes with a caputer card. the ati captuer cards arent bad i had the all in wonder 7500 and now im useing the all in wonder caputre card and im pretty satisfided with it. i dont know anyone with the all in wonder 9600 but like i said the ati caputer cards arent bad.
