Xvid and Mac

Postby schrizo » Sun Aug 10, 2003 11:30 pm

Is this possible? How can I view vids compressed with the latest xvid codec? I've searched for this, but xvid only seems to be a PC thing. Is there another way to play these vids?

XviD should be MP4 complient or something >_<. Gahg... Oh oh, it's coming to me!

VideoLAN, or The OS X build of MPlayer should work.

VideoLAN can play DivX .wma and it seems like I have played XviD on it. it supports a plethora of formats that QuickTime usually dislikes. I have also heard of mplayer but never tried it you can probably find it at http://versiontracker.com but iam willing to bet VideoLAN will play it just fine.

Wait for Red Wolf to find this thread, he knows all the tricks for playing all the different formats on Macs.

QuickTime 6 has an ISO decoder that should work fine for a regular ASP mpeg 4 file. I dunno about ASP in avi, but I'd imagine so. If it's outside of ASP then whoever encoded it sucks and you're screwed (quicktime-wise, of course).
