DVD Drive won't recognize DVDs. The hell?

Postby Chaos Angel » Thu Jul 17, 2003 1:08 am

I have an Atapi 12x DVD-R drive. I tried ripping with it, and for some mysterious reason, it will recognize, open, and play audio CDs, but DVDs don't register and it just says the drive is empty.

I tried rolling back the drivers and looking for new drivers and dvd decoders, but could not find any. If anyone knows something I can do to fix this problem short of buying a new one, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

PowerDVD doesn't work with it ?

DVD playing software doesn't work. Of course it should also show up in the Windows Explorer.

Hmm odd... firmware update maybe?

Take it out and re-install it? If that doesn't work or a firmware upgrade, I'd say it's broken since those are both software things (drivers/firmware). That would imply it's hardware.

Maybe it has to have the region set for it ? some drives won't pick up DVD's unless you do that in Hardware configuration
