where's dat DVD? (DVD detection help needed)

Postby TheRyuujinMike » Mon Jul 14, 2003 6:49 pm

Hi peoples.

I'm trying to make an AMV, and I'd very much like to use the footage from some of my DVDs. Like most DVDs I've bought at conventions, they are the crappily-english subtitled Hong Kong rip-offs of authentic DVDs. This poses a problem however; no matter what I do, I can't get my DVD rom to recognzie the disk. I've tried various all-region programs, but I'm having no luck. I'd really rather not have to use analog capture methods with DVDs, so if anyone knows what I can do to make the DVD rom recognize these disks, please feel free to help me out ^_^'

Thanks in advance!

Yeah, they play just fine on a DVD player; on any DVD player, really.

No, it doesn't even show a disk present in explorer. Also, after testing my ASPI with a testing program and fixing it with ForceASPI, there is still no difference.

well I'd sure as heck like to know what the rest of you are buying if not english dub DVDs and not region free japanese DVDs with often less than great subs (aka hong kong DVDs)

Pretty much what I have on my shelf.
:) (minus the japanese import)

Buying bootleg = giving money to crime... Many crime circles in Hong Kong make a ton of money off of the Bootleg items they sell so they can buy weapons and drugs... :?

How bootleg companies work... They actually buy the legit copy of the anime on DVD. Pop it into a DVD cloning machine and presto! Sell the copies for how much they want and they make the money off of just one legit copy. Or they rip the vob files and make their own DVDs with so many episodes per DVD... And make a lot more money that way...

Boohoo... I don't have enough money to get the legal copies... Tough, save money and get it when you have enough! That's what I did and now I have an ever growing collection of anime DVDs! (or you can get it on VHS which is much cheaper than DVD)

I myself don't have that much money to buy the japanese imports soo...
I wait for them to be released here in the US!

Oh well. Do what you must... Buying bootleg = giving money to crime...
