Wondering what type of capture card to buy
I am thinking of buying an ATI AIW Radeon 8500 64mb, but am unsure of how it will interface with my system. My specs are as follows.
P4 1.3 Ghz
20gb HD
256k RDRAM
Samsung 16x DVD-rom drive (doesn't play dvds 'cause its a piece of shit)
GeForce 2 MMX
P4 1.3 Ghz
20gb HD
256k RDRAM
Samsung 16x DVD-rom drive (doesn't play dvds 'cause its a piece of shit)
GeForce 2 MMX

A radeon 8500 would replace the GeForce2 MX. (That's MX, not MMX.) However, a new generation of Radeon video cards is about to be released, so you may want to wait a couple of months.
Do you have DVD software installed? If you don't, it'd explain why you can't play DVDs.
Also, you might want to get more RAM - 256 kilobytes isn't much. The last computer I saw with only 256 kilobytes of RAM was a 286.

Koutech makes a video capture card that is separate from your video card. I think it's called a 606R. I've never had a chance to play with it, but it's only aroun $60, and Koutech makes some pretty sturdy and reliable hardware.
Koutech is also known as Kouwell, and if there's a preipheral card out there to be made, they've done it. (I have a pci video card from them that's older than dirt, uses generic microsoft video card drivers and puts out 24bit color at 800*600
