Dell or Toshiba Laptop

Postby Vlad G Pohnert » Wed Feb 05, 2003 12:21 am

I looking at getting a new laptop for gneral use and some video eding off and on.. I've spent considerable time lookiing into it and basically got it down to a Toshiba or Dell. I do like the warrenty Dell has and it's got good pricing right now ((the Inspiron 8200).. Toshiba (the 5200 series) looks good as well... Any comments or feedback from people who have one or the other?

I recently purchased a Toshiba 5205-s703, and I'm very happy with it so far. The display is great, and the sound is quite decent for a laptop.

I hear good things about the Dells, but I dislike buying stuff that I have to look at, listen to, or touch (screens or keyboards/mice, speakers, etc) by mail without getting a good hands-on look at it first.

I don't think you can go too wrong either way, just look at the features/price of both and good luck.

Oh, this Toshi is replacing an older 2805 model, which I was only fairly happy with. I like the new one a lot more. ^.^

I'd have to agree with FC on the Toshiba laptops. I got a fairly cheap one as a Christmas present (1115-S103 nice rebates ..... niiiiice rebates ) and have been very satisfied with it. I use it on the train to and from work to watch DVDs/digisubs and do basic AMV work (it's only a 1.5 Celeron with 256MB of RAM), and just about every other day someone comments on how good the screen looks when I'm watching stuff in full-screen. The 5200s are a higher-end laptop, so I'd think they'd be even better.

After all the grief Dell has put me through trying to get the hard drive I bought from them that failed replaced, I intend to avoid them like the plague. Their web page apparently blatently lies about the warranty on it.
