Pfft, Vista 64-bit kicks ass. And I'm seeing 64-bit being installed on a good majority of machines nowadays. Once you use Vista 64-bit with 4 Gb or more RAM, you'll never want to go back. And heck, if you buy a computer with Vista now, you get a free upgrade to Windows 7 (of course make sure they are giving the upgrade before buying.)
They are!?!? Wait, you mean the beta, or a full version when it comes out? And I say 64-bit sucks just because of compatibility issues, limited avisynth tools, programs screw ups, etc.
Windows 7 comes out Oct. 22, you can pre-order an upgrade copy of Home Premium or Professional for cheap until like July 11. And most computer makers are giving free upgrades to 7 if you buy a current Vista machine. Yes, 64-bit has some compatibility issues when trying to work purely in 64-bit. Unless your codecs, avisynth, editor, etc all 64-bit, you will run into some issues. Until everyone makes their software 64-bit we'll have to pick and choose what we use. However, 64-bit runs 32-bit just fine also, so you can just use 32-bit stuff until 64-bit versions come out. It's basically a win-win situation. MS page of
32-bit and 64-bit. At least all Windows 7 copies are supposed to come with 32-bit and 64-bit in the same box, so you can choose to run 32-bit if you have some hardware or software that won't run at all on 64-bit.
