Getting videos without having DVD's??

Postby Hells_rebelion » Tue Jan 06, 2009 12:57 pm

I don't have access to anime DVD's, just wondering is there an alternative source to getting any anime footage (I like legal ways) but really any way will help.

Buying dvds is pretty much the only legal way to access good quality footage.

Well in that case, you are on the only one who knows, so it just comes down to whether or not YOU consider it ethical.

AMV's are a legally gray area, actually leaning more towards illegal than gray. Buying dvds does not make it anymore legal, but many people feel that it makes it ok ethically.

I've rented DVD's to get access to certain scenes and extras like clean opening and closing animation (curse ADV and their slim and sexy but extra-less Thinpak sets). :|

Not as good as Blu-rays make you feel. :P I salivate at the mere thought of it, and I have yet to even mess with a Blu-ray disk (although I have done HD before).

Hey people are jumping off bridges and killing themselves and stuff, so yea.

Also, there are plenty of free conversion softwares. And really the only "legal" way to get footage is through dvds.

Not in the way you're thinking - because that would be a ban-able offense.

I doubt there are any alternatives, unless something like iTunes sells the footage you're looking for (highly unlikely)

The problem with purchasable downloads is they will be DRM'd. Also, the last time I downloaded some free episodes from iTunes or other video sites offering samples, the quality was absolutely horrid. They usually use a very low bitrate or deinterlace in some brute force way, thus the video looks like crap. I don't see the point of paying for something nearly the cost of the DVDs (a lot of times it costs more!) for DRM laced crappy video. I won't pay for downloads unless they can look as good as I can do with Handbrake or MeGUI myself!
