Best editing software and decently priced?

Postby Jenya » Sat Aug 09, 2008 1:24 am

Well, subject line says, money is tight and I want a editing program that will look good. Premier and Vegas are so expensive. I mean, I want to have a program that makes AMVs look great (whether I have the skills to back it up remains to be seen). But is the only way to shell out $500? I saw a list of programs on the forum. Are any of the free ones worth using? I doubt it, but I figure it doesn't hurt to ask. Thanks for any advice.

Maybe if you can find a copy of vegas 5.0 or 6.0, From what I know they are relatively cheap. I use vegas 5.0 and it does everything I need. No need to shell out the big bucks for the most recent stuff for just 1 or 2 more capabilities.

You can actually find vegas 6.0 and\or 8.0 for between $100-$120 at BHphotos. (though I don't have the link with me.) One of the most famous editors on the site uses magix, which you can get for about $50.

As sacrilegious as it seems, there have been some good videos made with Windows Movie Maker.

I suggest downloading a bunch of trials of products in your price range and buy whichever one you like best. The term "best editor" is all relative to the editor themselves. The editor makes the video, not the software, so it all depends on what works best for you.

There is a list of video editing software on this site.

if all else fails there are the "dumbed down" versions of Vegas and Premiere (though I'd much rather get an old copy of Vegas than use Movie Studio version)

and Magix is around the $45-$50 range in places

Yeah, but that person also has Partical Illusions, an effects program, to help add lots of lovely visual things to their AMVs. It runs about $300 as I understand. ::weeps::

I wasn't aware that koopiskeva used partical illusion as well, but it's not needed. He used Magix and MSpaint for euphoria. And take Nostromo. He uses primire, photoshop, and alot of elbow grease. And look at the results he gets.

Well, as luck would have it, I happened upon a copy of Magix Movie Edit Pro 12 for $15 bucks. Decent software, hopefully?

the only video Koop used Particle Illusion on is Skittles.

he also used photoshop on it for most of the effects you see and PI for a couple of them... and a lot of frame by frame editing (it was entertaining to listen to him edit while on skype sometimes). if you can't afford photoshop THE GIMP is a free alternative.

and yes Euphoria was done with MS Paint and Magix.

when it comes to making good videos its more so to do with the person behind the program than it is the program itself, however some programs can make some effects easier to create.

You must be mistaken. Koop doesn't edit.

Magix for $15 that's awesome!!! I payed $50, and it was worth it.

I've used version 10 till this day. [along with the GIMP]

save your money for an external hard drive instead...
[and even those are getting cheap these days.]
