Have you tried Windows Movie Maker?

And have you read the Software List Sticky at the top of the General Video forum?

And how on earth were you trying to use Windows Media Player to make videos?

really good, easy, simple, and fast are all subjective.

Good is only good to those who think it is. IMO Adobe Premiere Pro isn't "good". 6.5 on the other hand, is.

Easy is only easy to those who think it is. For me, its easy to learn and use a bunch of "complex" programs. Thats how i am. Premiere and After Effects are easy for me but hard for others. Thats something you need to figure out on your own.

Simple is pretty much the same as the above. Something simple to me might be too complex to someone else.

Fast is also very subjective. This all depends on the software itself and your source. Adobe Premiere 6.5 is fast but only if the source i'm using is in a format/codec that is editable. For instance, using Huffyuv is a LOT faster then using divx/xvid or mpeg2. On the other hand, for me, using Adobe Premiere Pro or even WMM, it's slow no matter what format/codec i'm using.

So... what am i trying to say here? Figure it out for yourself. Go download some trials/demos and see if they are what you want... then buy it and use it.

windows movie maker can be a decent program if you get a number of custom mods for it, and after all, it is free
there are a few other editing programs that you can probably download for free but the top of the line ones like adobe primiere pro, after effects and vegas will cost you a sizable amount of money (unless you can *cough* acquire them online for free at sites with questionable reputations).

personally i use adobe primiere pro, it takes a bit of time to get used to but it has pretty much everything i want in an editing program and a whole lot more. I'm still learning the ins and outs of it, i suggest you take a look at the software reviews link on the main page as that can give you an idea of what other people think of each program

i like Vegas, but what you should do is try out the "trial" programs and see which one you like the best

uhmm so adobe priemer is good right? if i like windows movie maker would i like adobe or sony version w.e ? The only downdisde of wmm is that it's toooo slow and i keep on losing by files! not once but twice already.. it's really pissing me off and i can't do reruns with it coz the timing is off as well. Theres nothing wrong with my computer, it's perfectly healthy and in shape..

Download trail versions from their respective websites and try them out for yourself. I went from WMM to Vegas no problem, with a little help from LadyMercury's guide to Vegas, stickied at the top of this forum. Although to be fair, I'm still learning new things about the program all the time, but the transition wasn't very difficult for me.

Start with windows movie maker. Thats what I did and I got a good feel of how to frame by frame it and it forced me to storyboard before I worked on a project. The fading effect I got from Movie maker and transparencies took FOREVER to duplicate with Adobe premier.

The major downside to WMM is footage quality, and that takes a lot of effort before input, and some tweaking on the output to get clear images and motion to come through on the end result.

The greatest part about WMM is that in many cases you have your hands tied, which forces you to get creative to get the effects you want. Your hands tied also means you start to get a feel for what you really want to do... After you get a handle on WMM, move up and shop around. It's a good starting point to figure out what YOU want do do with edditing software.
Annoying, obnoxious and opinionated.

if you have the option not to, do not start with WMM.

i'd recommend premiere or vegas (premiere, for myself).

if you must use something WMM-like, though, use pinnacle.
