Audio CBR mp3 compatability

Postby Phantasmagoriat » Tue Mar 06, 2007 7:02 pm

It plays fine in VLC, but I've verified that it doesn't want to play the audio in other players [like windows mp and media player classic].

Here is my video:[vidid=136371]
audio is this:
-2-channel stereo CBR mp3
-44.1KHz
-16bit
-320kbps
-encoded from a .wav in BeSweet GUI, using the 'AbsoluteDestiny_MP3_CBR_320' profile.

video is this:
-XviD (hopefully DivX compliant :P)
-29.97fps
-544x408 resolution
-24bit
-311kbps
-encoded from lagarith in Magix MEP10

muxed together using Vdubmod direct-stream-copy

If anyone could figure out what's going on, and tell me how to fix it, or point me to a better method, or whatever... that'd be great :)

LAME has this bug where if you use a bitrate of 256 or 320 kbps, the audio won't play right in some media players and you have to seek to a point AFTER the beginning to be able to hear it. This seems to apply both for simple MP3 files and for MP3 streams in AVI.

Use 224kbps or less and you should be fine.

oh! That seems to be the case.
...I never would have figured that one out. 192kbps seems to work great... and I guess it didn't really need to be 320 anyway

Thanks a bunch :D
