Audio Format

Postby EminaStudios » Thu Feb 22, 2007 12:17 am

I was just wondering what's the best audio format for a music video.

Thanks.

If you are submitting your video to a convention, the contest rules should list the acceptable formats. Uncompressed WAV (PCM) will retain the highest fidelity, but it isn't always an option.

If you are compressing your video for distribution on the internet, it depends on what container format you're using:
- If you're using MPEG-1 or MPEG-2, then use MPEG-1 Layer II audio
- If you're using AVI, then use MP3 (LAME and Radium are considered two of the best MP3 codecs for compression)
- If you're using Ogg Media (OGM), then use Ogg Vorbis
- If you're using MPEG-4 (MP4), then use AAC

.3gp is just the video container/codec - the audio is usually compressed in the AAC format

Since .3GP files are generally for playback on cellular phones and some portable media players, it's only a small set of people that would prefer that format.
