<b>If you are submitting your video to a convention,</b> the contest rules should list the acceptable formats. Uncompressed WAV (PCM) will retain the highest fidelity, but it isn't always an option.
<b>If you are compressing your video for distribution on the internet,</b> it depends on what container format you're using:
- If you're using MPEG-1 or MPEG-2, then use MPEG-1 Layer II audio
- If you're using AVI, then use MP3 (LAME and Radium are considered two of the best MP3 codecs for compression)
- If you're using Ogg Media (OGM), then use Ogg Vorbis
- If you're using MPEG-4 (MP4), then use AAC
