I always get each piece of software separately and install as needed. The only things on my computer remaining from the time I installed the AMVapp (which was way back in '03 or '04, IIRC), are the massive number of AviSynth plugins it came with. But even those I've pared down to a somewhat-smaller core set I actually use.

I highly recommend you don't get the old AMV App, and I sort of recommend you dont get the beta one. The thing is, a lot of the stuff in it can be either difficult to find or very time consuming to find, particularly some of the avisynth filters. So if you aren't able to get the stuff on your own, then I do reluctantly recommend it in that case.

I will hope to make future versions more... flexible.

Alright, I was working on this thing practically all day long today, and got a big chunk of it done. http://zarxrax.kicks-ass.net/avtechbeta/index.html
Most of the stuff listed under "Getting Your Video" should be sort of updated now. Most of the new content is very much out of sync with amvapp, so you probably can't follow along unless you google for the stuff.

The link to the AMVapp beta2 doesn't seem to be working for whatever reason. It's like it doesn't even exist.

I would add that the instrument used for the boochsack section must be red-hot and rusty.

With the inclusion of FFmpegSource, will there be a corresponding VirtualDubMod template as well (not that I'd use it, but it would be useful for others)? Also, since there's now a wrapper function for the 2.00 beta to make it function like 1.21, I would suggest that both versions be included for completeness' sake - they don't conflict with each other because the 2.00 versions don't use FFmpegSource() to operate, and the wrapper directs to FFmpegSource2().

The wrapper function is in this post:
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p ... ost1246055

And while I've posted the templates before, here they are again:

ffmpegsource.avst
Code: Select all
#ASYNTHER FFmpegSource (1.21)
[FFmpegSource("%f",atrack=-1)]

I added the (1.21) to make sure it was distinguished from 2; if that causes a problem then just remove it.

ffmpegsource2.avst
Code: Select all
#ASYNTHER FFmpegSource2
[FFmpegSource2("%f",atrack=-1)]

VitualDubMod will no longer be included, but will be replaced by standard VitualDub and AvsP. I have not tried version 2.0 yet but I will take a look at it.

Why no more VirtualDubMod? I think I can guess.

1. It seems that development has been abandoned and it's been stuck at version 1.5.10.2 build 2542 since Feb 21 2006. VirtualDub is up to version 1.8.8 as of Jan 4 2009 and is still being worked on.

2. Many of the added capabilities of the Mod fork can be done through standard VirtualDub with the use of filters/plug-ins. There are MPEG2/DVD, WMV/ASF, MP4/3GP, DirectShow, and other input plug-ins available for various file types. VDM's native MPEG2 support didn't get used much anyways since many people load them (primarily .VOBs) via DGIndex/AviSynth.

3. Some of the added features aren't as useful now to AMV creation as they were a few years ago. With the transition to .MP4 and H.264+ACC (and ZarxGUI), VDM's being used less in the AMV chain.

That being said, I liked VDM's AviSynth script editor.

That was the one feature I always used. Isn't there a way to get Vanilla VD to mimic this behavior?

Actually, VDubMod was independently updated to 1.5.10.3 build 2550. The post is from last October, but the info in the program seems to indicate it was actually compiled in Dec 2007, so the state of development is still in question. Whether or not they'll continue to update it or bring it up to the 1.8 branch, I don't know. Considering the input plugins of the main VDub, that would leave just the AviSynth editor and Streams menu being the only parts exclusive to VDubMod, right? Or am I missing something? I'm omitting the OGM and MKV save support because I really don't view those as necessary at all.

http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=141693

As far as VDubMod goes, I much prefer the Streams menu to the original's Audio menu. That said, I do have both VDubMod 1.5.10.3 and VDub 1.8.6 so it doesn't really matter.

Even considering the stock VirtualDub, would it be possible to include the VDMod_Resize plugin, considering it can work with both? Unless of course there's some other app included which will show correct proportional values to adhere to X:Y aspect ratio while also optionally taking mod16 into account - those bits of functionality are exactly the reason I use that plugin so much, even though I do all my resizing in AviSynth.
