If you're talking about the video in the preview window lagging when you hit the 'play' button, that's fairly common, especially if you're using higher-bitrate/size/quality video on a machine with less power/memory. And by less power/memory I don't necessarily mean a P2-300... my 1Ghz/512MB box lags a bit when I hit 'play' on a project working with .avs'd vob files, and sometimes still lags when I have had Premiere preview the section. I tend to not really trust what the video looks like until it's been exported. *sigh* I need a faster CPU and more memory, but, I digress.
However, Z does have a point- reading through the guides here (off the main org page- click the logo at the top of the forum page and look for 'guides' on the left) will do you a lot of good, and some of the doom9 ones can be useful as well, depending on what you're doing. They likely won't answer all of your questions, but you'll have the technical background information at your disposal to give us the more detailed information we usually need to be able to try and help you.
