Capture video

Any opinions on getting good footage.
I dont have a capture card or anything
just a DVD-ROM and a decent computer
All suggestions are good
i need to know since im told my vids are good artistically but need better quality footage
Also if anyone can post how to do it using a capture card would be good since i might get one if there is no other way.
