n00b question?...sorta?

Postby AlucardXP » Wed Oct 08, 2003 9:23 pm

Ok, im sorta new at this but im sorta not. Ive been using Adobe Premiere for a long time and always hated it. I recent watched a AMV that inspired me to make a more "advanced" kind of video. I can not figure out how to do this what so ever and I cant really find any help on how to do this either but its probably simple...

Anyway, the video that inspired me had a moving background with the character also moving. The background part I can figure out which was having a still picture slowly scrolling but what I cant figure out is how they had the character moving since it looked like they photoshoped around the whole character to make it transparent. From what I can find, I can only find how to put still PSD's in but I wanna know how to keep something that moves (like a character) and have everything else transparent.

If anyone can explain to me how to do this or point me to either a "how to" thread or a guide, it would be greatly appreciated!

Well, if you want to do it in Premiere I guess that your only option is to export the "character" part to a sequence of bitmaps and then extract the character frame by frame with photoshop.... then reimport the sequence of stills in Premiere as a video.

If you want to get fancier (but this doesn't mean automatically better) you can get yourself Adobe After Effects and do the rotoscoping of the character via masks. Theoretically this should be less work because you can adjust the masks at certain keyframes and have AE to do the interpolation in between for you (which, anyway, you have to tweak manually almost always).

So the short answer is: you have to make it the hard way :P

Hope this helps...

Awesome...Works like a charm! :D

Is there any way to take the sequence from PSD and bring it back to a video file without having to insert each frame by frame?

I don't have Premiere off hand right now, but I remember something like "import sequence of stills" or "numbered sequence" or similar.

Gotta check it out when I go back home

Yeah, label your images file001.psd, file002.psd and so on and then import picture - click the 001 file and select the "image sequence" checkbox.
