FLCL and IVTC

Postby Jebadia » Sat Sep 20, 2003 8:27 pm

I'm wonder if anyone with FLCL, preferably the R1 copy, has had a problem with getting a good crisp deinterlacing. A lot of the lines in the footage seemed it end up with sharp edges or jagged / not so smooth lines on the characters.

Any words of wisdom or something I should perhaps do with the avs script? I'm using the defaults right now for Telecline.

I used the defaults for Anger Management, and only one section looks like you described, that being the scene where Naota and his class president or whatever are talking while he's getting his shoes out of his locker. It kinda looked jaggy almost like that scene used an opposite field or something.

indeed, in a lot of slower shots, often ones that pan upward, I can see this same problem.

FLCL will not IVTC in high motion scenes.

It was computer animated at 29.97fps and when things move quickly every field uses a new frame.

So.....it would be wise not to IVTC and just leave it at 29.97fps?

If you want to maintain the smoothest possible motion, yes - but it all depends on what your priorities are.

Drat. I IVTC'ed it and didn't notice any problems.

Shall have to keep that in mind when making next video involving FLCL...
