Can I borrow your VHD:Bloodlust VOB files?

Postby DriftRoots » Tue Sep 16, 2003 9:42 am

Yeah, um, my DVD has decided that it does not like to be repeatedly attacked by DVDecrypter and won't let me take the last 30 minutes or so of VHD: Bloodlust (even though I managed it once or twice before, with low-quality results that had to be trashed).

I have the VOB 1-3 files, but cannot aquire 4 and 5. Don't know if it's possible, or anything else, but if anyone out there has these and would let me "borrow" them for awhile so I can at least get the last few clips I need for my AMV I would be EXTREMELY grateful. I have a cable modem, so technically transferring 1.7 GB or so will isn't totally out of the question as long as whoever's on the other end is equitably wired.

I have jumped through 500 hoops so far trying to get these files any other way, and it's just not happening - and I am not going to spend $30 for another DVD! Thankee!

I don't think anyone will just give you footage... :?

And I don't like DVD Decrypter... I've been using Smart Ripper for quite some time now and had no problems.. So, I would suggest that you use Smart Ripper instead!

Yeah, I highly doubt it too, but I figured I'd ask anyways... yeesh, it's not like I'm asking for something I haven't already paid for!! I own the DVD, which works fine, EXCEPT when I'm trying to rip those last two VOBs.

I've tried other decrypters, apparently my DVD is damaged or something...

HEY!! I am very careful with all my discs, never had one die on me yet, or get messed up, and I've got some old, heavily-used stuff, let me assure you! This one is BRAND NEW, which is one reason I'm so ticked off... hmm...

I know... I should *somehow* find a place to rent the movie and swap the discs... mine plays fine in a DVD player, it just doesn't let me rip part of it... that's part of the problem, though, no one around here HAS it for rent...

Exchange it for another DVD. Not that hard to do...

There's nothing wrong with the DVD-ROM or with the DVD disc. It's the authoring method used to publish the DVD. I had a similar problem (more or less exactly) with my Street Fighter Alpha DVD.

The best fool proof solution I could give you is to use DoItFast from http://members.cox.net/doitfast4u/

I suggest you install Guardian Knot from http://www.doom9.org while you're at it, since it requires DVD Decrypter, Avisynth, etc.

Just start the program, choose what you're going to extract, and wait till it finishes. After everything is done you'll end up with a DVD2AVI project file and an .AVS file. Use virtualdub to get whatever clip you need using the AVS file and that's it.
If you try to extract directly from the Mpeg2 stream you'll likely end up "missing" video like before, so use the avisynth .avs file instead.

DoItFast? I'll try it, but I doubt very much it will have any more success than the rest did.

I can't return the bloody thing - what am I supposed to say - "I can't rip this DVD, thus breaking copyright laws, can I have a replacement? It's fine, otherwise."

But in any case, I've arranged to borrow someone else's DVD, so if all goes well (that's kind of funny in a sick-sad way) I should be all set now.

"D-Me" (default title until something cooler occurs to me) - uh... this one's still in the "I wanna make it" stage, but did get to 5% at one point.

while ive never worked with vob files but i heard they were huge. ive used dvd decrypter once but i didnt really care for it. how many times have you used scenes from VHD?? if it is a few times then i suggest burning the files to cd or dvd so you wont have to worry about ripping them again.

Yeah, smart. I can see that happening now:

"Hi, I can't rip this DVD at home and subvert copyright, can you exchange this DVD for one that has no copy protection?"

More wisdom from the mouth of that obnoxious lump of cookie dough in your avatar? I think not.

Yeah, VOB files are huge, someone once ripped a bunch of Cowboy Bebop stuff for me without realizing the impact this would have on my hd - and well, suffice to say those VOBs had my hard drive for lunch - 33.7GB is a lot to swallow for a measly 60GB hd already crammed half-full with my other stuff. Soooo bye bye CB VOB files.

My VHD ones are about 1.6 GB each, and there's four in all, plus a smaller one of about 500 mb or so. It's the last two I'm missing.

FORTUNATELY I wil have my hands on a decent DVD soon, so not to worry, I'll get my stuff that way.

Now there's a way the music industry can combat downloading - somehow make all their CDs etc. of such massive size that no one without a super-fast connection and huge hard drive can easily aquire them. Ah, if only things were this simple

oh yes, and as far as burning my stuff to CD, the AMV I'm working on is only using footage from VHDB, so consequently I need to have the entire thing at my fingertips b/c it's easier than making copies of tons of avi files.
