Postby Bebop0083 » Wed Sep 10, 2003 1:20 am

ok i downloaded a video that used divx. i have a divx player but its not playing the video. it keeps saying video data: FOURCC code "DX50". it says i might need to download the codec to play the video. if so can somebody give me the link to the codec?? i have the updated version of divx so i dont know why it wouldnt work. but im sure thats the problem unless any one else can think of any thing different. thanks in advance.

If you download XviD then you also get a 4CC changer. That might work.

its at http://www.xvid.org

I had problems playing a DX50 video a little while back. As far as my limited knowledge goes DX50 is the fourCC code for DivX5. My problem was I could only get the DX50 file to play in DivX player 2.1 and not in any other player like Zoom or Windows Media Player. I solved the problem myself just by downloading the newest version of DiVX and reinstalling it.

If you still have problems after that have a look at the FAQ on DivX.com that'll probably answer you.

I can't remember any files which had errors with 5.0, but I do remember having
a nightmare with Div5 one time; it was a specail VKI Codec.

? which files is it and is it on this board for download ?

Amateur night.

DX50 is the fourcc for DivX 5. Although, now that it's 5.1, you'd think they'd change it to DX51. Anyway, if you have the DivX 5 directshow decoder (if you downloaded divx 5), it should play in ANY directshow player. That means divx player, windows media player, penis player, whatever

There are no xvid binaries on www.xvid.org, and the only build that comes with a fourcc changer is Koepi's.

Now if you have the divx decoder and it isn't being decoded with it, my only guess is the codec fourcc is different, so if you do get that fourcc changer, make sure it says DX50 and DIVX, and if it dosen't that's probably the problem.

Nothing wrong with claiming amatuer night. People need to be deterred from giving out false information. This is a huge problem around these forums lately.

Alot of us are getting to the point where answering the same question 3 times in a week, in three different threads is starting to wear.

of course it doesn't help that the 4cc's are not listed anywhere either!!

div3 - 3ivx or Alpha3.11 ;-) slow or Vulture

div4 - Alpha3.11 ;-) fast

div5 - VKI 2nd patch slow

div6 - vKI 2nd patch fast

MP41 - SMR very slow

MP42 - SMR slow

MP43 - SMR fast

DIVX - MPEG-4 VKI 4.3.3 updates or Divx 4.X

hmmm . . I forget the rest . . . AP41, AP42, AP43 - the hacks of Angel Potion

hehe . I'm not even sure these are right . .. ? does anyone remember these?

Lately, a lot of fansubbers are releasing episodes encoded in Xvid with the 4CC changed to DIVX. While Divx 5.0.5 can play them, I do notice several artifacts (like mayor pixelation in scene changes) that dissapear when I set the files to use Xvid instead.

My recommendation is to decode these files using the real Xvid codec instead of Divx. :(

You sure you dont just have different postprocessing settings for your xvid and divx decoders? :?

I don't use post processing with any codec. While my CPU can handle it, I don't like it. As for the artifcats in questions they appear within a single frame, in a form ressembling multiple random squares in different colors. I only notice this in scene changes though, and it never appears when I use Xvid to play Xvid. Besides, why play Xvid through Divx? Better post-processing?
