Don't bother. Use Uncompressed PCM (WAV) for your video. You're going to have to compress it 1 or more times over again anyway. And contrary to poular belief 128kbps for an MP3 is nowhere near CD-quality. If you overcompress audio it starts sounding...well...you get funny "tinkly" noises, like...ah its hard to explain...you know what happens when you over-compress video, you get all that ugly blocking and mosquito noise around things? Well, imagine that as an audio stream, and you'll see what I mean.

What about distrobution?

I don't think people are going to like a 50meg avi file that only deals with the audio.

Personally I've never met someone who thinks 128 is cd quality. VBR mp3's done with lame and --alt-preset standard are probably the best way to go for distro at the moment.

You can do that pretty easy in WM9, although I haven’t tried it for myself yet. I tend to stick with CDex. It's been my fave for years now.

BTW: Why are you all even discussing 128's? Anything less than 192 is totally wussy and a complete waste of time. I figure in this day and age that would be common knowledge. Personally I rip to wav then to 320kbps MP3 as a basic rule. Its gets the best results and completely perfect quality.

Try Cooledit, You can buy it from thier site, or get it through all the "Usual" channels  . It should be able to convert from what's on your CD to WAV, and then from your output (premiere) video, you should render uncompressed PCM. From there, put the file into Vdub, and encode to MP3 with Lame at 136+kbps.

use anything that can rip CD's, there should be an option for "Uncompressed WAV" or some such thing. For distro, well, use VirtualDubs MPEG-1 Layer 3 or even Lame MP3 Codec for the final product. It will knock a fair bit off the filesize (Premiere doesnt like MP3 files, or MP3 encoded Audio for some reason. Strange problems can arise...)
