SmartRipper question

Postby Beef » Sun Aug 04, 2002 12:10 pm

I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to rip a DVD with SmartRipper so there is english subtitles.

PS: I already went to doom9 so don't suggest it, and I tried just doing the stream processing, that did not work either.

Please help, thanks.

You can't. You'd have to rip the *.ifo file, find a filter for VirtualDub called VobSub, and then open the IFO file in the VobSub filter and add the subtitles.

Did you actually read the subtitling guides?

Subtitles on DVDs are stored seperately in the .ifo files. They are actually just pictures with timing info so you can't just "rip a movie with the subs" because the subs are seperate things. To apply them to your ripped video you have to use a plugin called VobSub which will use the .ifo subtitles and place them over your video. You can do this either in virtualdub or avisynth.

In any case, there is a full subtitle guide on doom9 which does answer everything.

You may use FlaskMPEG to rip directly from the DVD to the hard drive.. but it is a very lame way of doing so and yes it will even include the crappy looking DVD subtitles......

I mean to say FlaskMPEG will let you take this here "DVD" and "convert" it to a "DivX AVI file" with "subtitles". But it doesn't always work, is slow and is like a bad way of doing things...
