by the time I knew what clip were going where, I only needed to un-compress certain section to use for the re-build

the final AMV was about 22meg . . ^^ . . not to shabby either ^^

Saeth1 wrote:the VOB you rip will be about 1 gig for each episode, you usually rip all three episodes from a dvd in the same session, but you can do one at atime if needed...then the .avi's that you make from the vob's (one ep at a time) take about 350 megs, so you need at least 3 gigs to do a short series

my final video was 125 megs but i didn't shrink it at all from the source footage :p

How do you compress your VOBs to get them them to be 3 gigs for a series?

He's talking about a short series, something like Read Or Die.

350 megs per episode is still pretty good....

I think it depends what you're ripping (whether it's a movie or an entire series). I have a 120 gig hd for amv purposes and my current video folder is a little under 50 gigs. 15 gigs I think is really pushing it if you're using a wide range of footag, but it can probably be done.

I was just interested in this because I only have a 20Gig hard drive and I always have to sacrifice quality just so the whole video will fit on my hard drive.

You have heard of the bait and switch method of editing right? It makes using a small hard drive more efficient. Plus a new hard drive aint that much....

also... i downloaded some animes off of Imesh and they are really good quality... some have subs (i.e. Naruto, Shaman King, One Piece, Chobits) but i have got some that don't... you can download most dbz without subs and still okay quality.. i downloaded Ninja Scroll without subs in GREAT quality, Fatal Fury and Street Fighter had no subs and they look great.. (in fact my first AMV was to Street Fighter) so it can be done, u just have to find them..

Yeah but you know what? A) It's illegal, an doesn't support the industry, and B) your videos will look like shit, because anything you download is in a lossy codec. C) If youre gonna do it, keep it to yourself.
