I need to RIP some DVDs

Postby valdrianth » Sat Aug 03, 2013 5:33 pm

Hey guys

So, I've been using DVD DeCrypter on the PC for years to rip my DVDs for amv making. It has yet to fail and disappoint me until now. Recently bought Legend of Korra DVDs, and it seems their copyrights are a bit too powerful.

Does anyone have suggestions on a free/logoless ripper that's more powerful. I use both PC and Mac. I've heard things about Mac the Ripper, but it keeps crashing on me.

Thanks in advance!

DVD Decrypter was great, but since it stopped getting updates the only way to continue using it would be to get something like AnyDVD or DVDFab's Passkey, but neither of those options are free.

Your best option for free DVD decrypting is DVDFab Free. Here are some guides to use that explain how to rip using this software (as it is a bit bloated):

A&E's Technical Guides to All Things Audio and Video (v3) (Official a-m-v.org Guide) *Has screenshots!
Basic step-by-step Guide on DVD Ripping (PixelBlended.com)

The software always does a 30-day trial of the full software (you can't turn that off), but the basic DVD ripping part will work after the 30 days are over.

Would anyone recommend using Aimersoft Video Converter?

Sorry to be a pain, but I'm trying to follow the Handling DVD guide on the PixelBlended studios website, and I've got to the DGIndex stage, but there is no option to "Honor Pulldown Flags" under "Field Operation. All I get is "None", "Forced FILM" and "raw Encoded Frames". If it's any help, the video is PAL, and I'm using the DGIndex that came with AMVapp (Which fails the first two AVISynth tests, and the 3 MPEG two tests, which I will be making another post for).

Pardon my ignorance, I have managed to fix these problems. Sorry for wasting your time.

I'm surprised that Smartripper hasn't been mentioned yet. It was all the rage back in the day.

The fact that it was abandoned in 2001 should be obvious as to why no one mentions it.

But I figured that somebody would have forked it by now... do we not use modern-day descendants of things like DVD2AVI and Huffy?
