How many video tracks do you normally have?

Postby Stoic » Sat Mar 01, 2003 12:42 am

Right now Too fucked up Productions is using Upwards of 10. It's getting to be a mess heh.Which got me to wondering how many video tracks does the average AMV creator use?

Wow.....10??
I usually only have 3 on normal occasions. Although I haven't had much experience in multi-track effects, a lot of times there's simply no need.

I usually have 4-5 video tracks and one audio track, but I may use a lot of effects in my NES video, so there may be more.

In a project? Six to seven per edit list on average; twelve to fourteen is where it starts becoming unmanagable. I think the highest simultaneous number of tracks that have been composited in any project of mine hovers around five or six.

People who can do great stuff without all this disgusting complexity, however, are the ones that get the  and Image from me.

I tend not to go above Video 5...I've only got one monitor and going up any higher means having to scroll between the tracks, as opposed to being able to see everything at once. That said, I rarely tend to use Video 1A/1B nowadays except as dumping grounds to edit a clip and move it up to its proper space without displacing other clips.

my current project - Bubblegum crisis tokyo 2040 - Unsung hero, I'm using 7 video tracks on that's my average..

But when I remade my El Ladonigro vid, I had 12- 14 Tracks in use, because I was working all over the place, putting in the replacement clips in various spots all the time...

another one of my video I also have 10 tracks on.... but 7 is my average usage...

I never use 1a or b, and mine typically go up to about track 6-8.

I work in Single-Track Editing mode, so I only use Video 1 for when I'm doing a basic rubberband fade and no big effects.

You lied MJ!! Oh wait, maybe it's Koop? *raises fist*

Me, at least 2 audio tracks and about 3-4 video tracks (been as high as 8 I think, but never much more, since I tend to employ the use of vitual clips, which sometimes causes problems of its own). -_-

Well, Rei-Mix looks like it has 20 layers going at once.

I normally use between 4-6 on my newer vids but only used one in my early days of WMM.

I find the total number of tracks are irrelevent to how good the video is. I've used anywhere from 2 to 12 tracks in Premiere and 20-30 in After Effects.
