Your Top 10 Favorite Albums

Postby LeapofFate » Thu Jun 25, 2009 4:10 pm

Since there is a "Your All Time Top 10 Favorite Songs" topic I thought it would be cool to have a "Your Top 10 Favorite Albums" topic.

Probably a lot easier to name 10 songs, although "Favourite" for me is only partially stable. For the last few months, it'd definitely have to be...

1. Steven Wilson - Insurgentes
2. OSI - Blood
3. ZHELANNAYA&MALERIA - 77RUS
4. OSI - Office of Strategic Influence
5. Akvarium - Akustica (Acoustics)
6. King Crimson - The Power to Believe
7. DDT - Mir Nomer Nol' (World Number Zero)
8. Porcupine Tree - Deadwing
9. Robert Fripp - At The End Of Time
10. King Crimson - Red

Oh boy...not sure I can rank them, but the 10 would be:

Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
Alice in Chains - Jar of Flies
Metallica - Master of Puppets
Tool - Lateralus
Pearl Jam - Ten
Nirvana - Nevermind
Soundgarden - Superunknown
Stone Temple Pilots - Purple
The Beatles - Abbey Road
The Who - Who's Next?

(odd mix I suppose)

Traced In Air > Focus

x2

I like Focus a lot, but I find Traced In Air superior.

Uh...

I'm guessing something like this (limited to one album per band):

- "Lateralus" by Tool
- "OK Computer" by Radiohead
- "23" by Blonde Redhead
- "Blood Death Ivory" by Angelspit
- "Opheliac" by Emilie Autumn
- "Pinkshinyultrablast" by Astrobrite (though I can't really decide my fave Astrobrite album)
- "Vol. II" by HURT
- "Loveless" by My Bloody Valentine
- "Souvlaki" by Slowdive
- "Flicker" by Ayria

Those are in no special order... So much bands were left out... And I guess I grew out of NIN O_o

Goo Goo Dolls - Gutterflower
Collective Soul - Blender
Peter Murphy - Love Hysteria
The Sisters Of Mercy - Vision Thing
The Offspring - Americana
Eve 6 - Horrorscope
Orgy - Vapor Transmission
Garbage - beautifulgarbage
Autumn's Descent - Deadletters
The Birthday Massacre - Nothing And Nowhere (as much as I love some of the songs on Violet, like "Play Dead" and "Nevermind", Nothing And Nowhere is a much more solid album - not to mention that for the songs that reappeared on Violet and Walking With Strangers, I vastly prefer the original renditions here)

That was tough, especially 'cause some of the other contenders could wind up on the list on any other given day. The main ones being Darkest Days (Stabbing Westward), Void (Under Midnight), Floodland (The Sisters Of Mercy), or most recently, Etched In Blood (The Dreaming - honestly, that album is what Stabbing Westward's final album should have been).

This sort of thing is always in flux. Let's see if I can actually nail 10 down. In no particular order...

The Reign of Kindo - Rhythm, Chord & Melody
Self - Gizmodgery
Burning Airlines - Identikit
Girl Talk - Night Ripper
So Many Dymanos - Flashlights
Kenna - Sacred New Cow
Mae - The Everglow
Ted Leo + Pharmacists - Shake The Sheets
Mute Math - Mute Math
No Knife - Riot For Romance!
Pendulum - Hold Your Colour

...Fuck, that's 11. Screw it, I'm not removing one. SUCK ON IT

Wait, that was wrong. What I meant is the opposite. It is way easier to name favourite albums than songs. For me at least.

I agree on the Traced in Air > Focus matter by the way.

For the record, I agree with you guys, but probably for an entirely different reason.

...I know, I just looked at that and was like, "...wait, I just said the opposite of what I meant!"

I'm definitely an album listener. I rarely listen to songs on their own.
