What is Nu-Metal?

Postby ShonenDizzyCow » Tue Jul 16, 2002 10:56 pm

Eh, well I was actually doing a search on nu-metal and stumbled upon this one...(well some of you might have seen it maybe)

http://www.entertainment.inuk.com/music ... guide.html

Which I thought might be an interesting read since there's so much talk of Linkin park and what not around this site..

(Disclaimer : BTW it's a joke site, and it's not mine, I stumbled upon it.)

Just in case.

funny stuff, but the only nu/neo-metal (either one gets the point across) band I like is Soulfly and SOME slipknot. Soulfly fucking great, other than that don't like much of the genre.

I saw the most horrible travesty a couple of days ago when I was walking through one of my local music retailers: Linkin Park was catagorized under Heavy Metal.

I almost cried.

*listens to his Shaman album*

Mmmm... American Indian-influenced Prog Metal. This is the kind of stuff that made me wake up and realize just how lackluster nu-metal was.

Viva la Power/Prog Metal! ^_^

Whats spelled wrong? "Nu-metal"? Actually, its spelled right, but people leave off the marks above the u. It should be "Nü-Metal"...

If we were talking about genuine, non manufactured bands,"new metal" would be appropriate."Nu-metal" is derisive. You could compare the term nu-metal to marketing people calling a new cleaning product "Nu-Shine"-an obvious, unoriginal, annoying gimmick, which typically defines nu-metal to most people.

*clings whimpering to her laughable cabaret-pop-rock while simultaneously laughing her head off*

Thanks for the link. :D Much fun. I've given up ranting about that genre, because IMO those who like it have very little breadth of music experience (i.e. they probably haven't listened to more than a dozen bands total) and really don't have very solid reasons to argue with.

Anyhow err, thanks for the link :)

I personally found the "How to become Slipknot in 10 easy steps" (techincally 9 even) hilarious considering how they could simplify the procedure based on stereotype.
