Why would MTV ever play music? =/

and I'd have to say 50's. I'm an Elvis and Hank Williams junkie.

'67-'74 were the golden age of rock music. It hasn't ALL been downhill from there at all, and music is hardly to blame for the negative changes - it's just that the audiences began changing quite a bit, while the music industry finally got reins on the original rock movement which prior to that was running amok. Punk came in to be a replacement for the runaway spirit but, in my view, never quite got to the same heights.

80s for the fact that I love classic alternative and for Traditional Goth and EBM, 90s for Post-Grunge (when it was still decent, at least) and for the real breakthrough of Industrial Rock/Metal.

Most definitely the 90's for me, that was the golden era for true r&b, hiphop, and rap. I didnt really get into any other genres of music like rock, gospel, oldies, metal, and j-pop/rock till the 00's so I've been listening to r&b, hiphop, and rap my whole life and I can safely say that those 3 genres these days are mostly garbage. There's hardly any real meaning coming from most of the mainstream artists and they all use the same material which got old 5 years ago. You do have a few artists who carry the same spirit in their songs like artists did back in the day but a huge majority don't and they are the only ones getting any real credit and fame, which causes upcoming artists to do the same thing and bring out more garbage. I still listen to underground music cause it's more or less the same as it was back then and most of the r&b, rap, and hiphop I reguarly listen to nowadays and use in my amvs were from back in the day. And I agree with Ingow, I may not have been around before '87 but I'm pretty sure this is the most terrible decade ever and I can only hope that it'll get better.

Quoted for truth.

Maybe early 90s, but once Rap and all that other crap started being popular, it's been hell. Even my "soft rock" station which used to be my haven from this crap has turned into something of the Kelly Clarkson station. I hear songs by her 6 times in an 8 hour shift. Hell, I heard Natasha Bendingfield's "Pocket full of Sunshine" twice in 6 hours. It's the same shit over and over and it's not all that great. Like that "Before He Cheats" song. More like how to attempt to get back at a cheating ex but in the process end up in jail and shelling out hundreds to repay the damage done because the nice judge told you to.

If I had to choose I'd say 80's and 90's.

The nineties was the pure golden age of music.
Beck, Slipknot, Stereophonics, Disturbed, Tool, Nirvana, Foo Fighters, U2, R.E.M, Pearl Jam, Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, Soundgarden, Radiohead, Green Day, Weezer...the list goes on...
