1955, Born on this day, Steve Earle, US singer, songwriter, (1988 UK No. 45 single ‘Copperhead Road’, Country and independent No.1 album ‘Trancendental Blues.’ Johnny Cash, Emmylou Harris, Gretchen Peters, Shawn Colvin and Eddi Reader have all covered his songs).

1956, Born on this day, Paul Young, singer, (1983 UK No.1 single 'Wherever I Lay My Hat, That's My Home', 1985 US No.1 single 'Everytime You Go Away'. The Streetband, (1978 UK No.18 single 'Toast.' Also lead singer with 1980's Q-Tips a soul covers band.

1959, Born on this day, Susanna Hoffs, guitar vocals, The Bangles, (1986 UK No.2 single with Prince song 'Manic Monday', 1986 US No.1 single 'Walk Like An Egyptian').

1963, Born on this day, Andy Rourke, bass, The Smiths, (1984 UK No.10 single 'Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now', plus 15 other UK Top 40 singles).

1968, Rolling Stone Brian Jones bought 'Cotchford Farm' in Sussex. The author AA Milne who wrote Winnie The Pooh had owned the house.

1973, Jerry Lee Lewis Jr was killed in a car accident near Hernando, Mississippi. Lewis had been working as the drummer in his father's band.

1987, Sonny and Cher reunite for a performance on TV show Late Night with David Letterman.

1990, Patricia Boughton filed a lawsuit against Rod Stewart claiming that a football he kicked into the crowd during a concert at Pine Knob Music Theatre had ruptured a tendon in her middle finger. And as a result the injury had made sex between her and her husband difficult.

1992, Ronnie Bond of The Troggs died. (1966 US No.1 & UK No.2 single 'Wild Thing').

2000, The Beatles launched their first official website http://www.thebeatles.com. The site went live on the same day as the release of their retrospective 'Compilation 1' album.

2004, Rap artist Ol' Dirty Bastard, (real name Russell Jones), collapsed and died at a Manhattan recording studio in New York aged 35. A spokesman for his record company, said the rapper, had complained of chest pains, was dead by the time paramedics reached him. ODB was a founding member of the Wu-Tang Clan in the early 1990s.
2005, Simon Cowell was named Show Business personality of the year by the Variety Club at the show business charity's annual awards show in London. Katie Melua won recording artist of the year at the event, hosted by singer Myleene Klass.

No noteworthy bdays shared here either.

Far more importantly, I also share my birthday with Steven Seagal :amv:

In 1970 this was clearly an awesome day:
1970, During a concert in Boston, Doors singer Jim Morrison asked the audience if 'anyone wants to see my genitals', the management switched off the power.

1970, 27 year-old Paul McCartney issued a press statement, announcing that The Beatles had split. McCartney said, 'I have no future plans to record or appear with The Beatles again, or to write any music with John'.

2003, The News Of The World reported that Michael Jackson had undergone scores of painful operations to strip his body of black skin until he appeared white. And that surgeons at a Santa Monica clinic eventually refused him any more treatment. An insider told the paper that Jackson had been anaesthetised on a weekly basis to have his skin peeled and bleached. ( :| )

Glitter was sentenced to four months in a Bristol prison in 1999 after being found guilty of downloading child pornography from the Internet. Disturbing.
1947, Born on this day, Rick Derringer, producer, guitar, vocals, The McCoys, (1965 US No.1 & UK No.5 single 'Hang On Sloopy'), Edgar Winter Group, (1973 US No.1 & UK No.18 single 'Frankenstein'). I think he was Weird Al's producer for a while, too, IIRC.

2006, The Rolling Stones called off their forthcoming European tour after guitarist Keith Richards underwent emergency brain surgery. The 62 year-old guitarist suffered "mild concussion" when he fell out of a coconut tree on holiday in Fiji. Okay, this is hysterical.

1983, Kiss appeared without their 'make-up' for the first time during an interview on MTV.

2004, Britney Spears married dancer Kevin Federline during a private ceremony in Los Angeles. Federline had two daughters from his previous relationship with actress Shar Jackson.

1999, Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee was released on $5000 bail after facing charges relating to a riot at a gig in North Carolina in 1997. Lee allegedly incited the crowd to attack a guard and had also poured a drink over his head.

2003, Mojo magazine readers voted the studio session for Elvis Presley's debut single 'That's All Right' the most pivotal moment in rock history. Bob Dylan's switch from acoustic to electric guitars in 1965 came second, and 'White Riot, the debut single by The Clash released in 1977 was voted third.

2005, Rod Stewart received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame to honour a career spanning more than 40 years.

2007, Take That kicked off their Beautiful World European tour in Belfast ending in Manchester on 20 November 2007.
