Any Drum & Bass / Jungle fans?

Postby Ph1l2007 » Thu Aug 07, 2008 11:18 pm

I am personally crazy about drum & bass. I got into it about a year ago, and since then, I have bought hundreds of tracks both on digital and vinyl. I know a lot of people diss drum & bass as "repetitive" and that "it all sounds the same", but after listening to it for a while I am finding that the beauty in this genre is the way it combines dynamic rythms with soundscapes and atmospheres that you can just loose yourself in. I'v discovered the samples in drum & bass patterns can range from jazz, classical / orchestral, electronic, ambient, or even soul & r&b. And it seems that even these "classic" genres are re-worked, and given a high-tech and surreal quality when put into a drum & bass context. It's just amazing! So, I am just wondering if there is anyone here that likes this genre as well?

Well, music isn't limited by any bonds, so you shouldn't be surprised by the fact that musicians mix different genres.

I'm not into D'n'B that much, mainly because most tracks that I heard were slightly melodical and they missed "something". But in my case it's just like with any other genre - it doesn't matter what it is, it just have to be great ;)

If you have your personal favs, please post the titles, I'll gladly give them a try :)

As for jungle... I think I have only one or two tunes in this genre, which are old Amiga *.mod... ;)
I rly liek Pokemanz and so should you.

Here are some tracks that I think are good, and all contain some good melody and atmosphere. This by no means represents the entire genre, but these are tracks I personally like. These tracks range from laid back, to high energy :)

I like your taste in DnB. Pretty much along the same lines of stuff I like. I spin lots of Liquid. Hospital, Innerground, Liquid V, are just few of the many labels I like. A couple new artists I am really diggin right now is Atlantic Connection and Naibu. I've also made a few tracks of my own.

I also get into dubstep too lately, but DnB is my main love as far as dance goes.

Right on man ;) Yeah Naibu is def. one of my favorites as well. So how long have you been spinning? Do you perform at any venues (like local clubs) and stuff?

I've been spinning DnB for about 5 years. I used to hang out with some of the local Denver crew that did the club nights (Snake Pit Thursdays for one) and also was on some of the internet radio shows they used to do from J Dub's basement studio. Never really did much performing publicly overall though because the darker hard-edged tech-step stuff was "in" as far the club scene went. So my preference for soulful and liquid DnB wasn't in high demand. About two years ago kinda got out of that scene though as far as going down to the clubs on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. I still spin but mainly bedroom DJ mixing. I also follow the scene still and talk to old friends here and there. That's mainly how I have been keeping up with the Dub-step scene, as that's really what seems to be popular with those guys now.

You do any mixing?

I do, but strictly bedroom stuff atm. I just got a pair of used CDJ 100's from a friend for free, so right now I am restricted to mixing with CD's. But I went ahead and burned all of my 320's to CD's so I am just practicing my beat / melody matching right now :) I have quite a digital collection so it was definitley like 50 CD's or something!
