Usually, it looks something like this:
Garbage, beautifulgarbage
The Offspring, Americana
Orgy, Vapor Transmission
Goo Goo Dolls, Gutterflower
[5th spot open - Peter Murphy's album Love Hysteria, The Sisters of Mercy's Vision Thing, Collective Soul's Blender, Stabbing Westward's Darkest Days, The Awakening's Razor Burn, Klank's albums Still Suffering[i] and [i]Numb, VAST's Music For People, Autumn's Descent's Deadletters album and Primer EP, etc.; I also have a strong suspicion The Last Dance's last couple albums and The Birthday Massacre would rate on there too whenever I get around to listening to more of those CDs rather than the select tracks I've picked up thus far]

Genre-wise:
Goth Rock, Industrial Rock, Industrial Metal, Goth-Industrial/Darkwave/Elektrogoth, EBM, Post-Punk, Post-Grunge (1st and 2nd Waves), Grunge, Alternative Dance, British Punk, early 80s Hardcore, Post-Hardcore (from the 80s, i.o.w. the real stuff), Third Wave Ska, NWOBHM, Power Metal, Progressive Metal, Goth Metal, Arena Rock, 70s 80s and 90s Pop/Rock, 80s and 90s Hip-hop/rap, New Wave, 80s Alternative Pop/Rock, and others I can't be bothered to name right now.

we discuss the merits of these useless lists and why they are the downfall of the humanity along with many allusions to bush as evil, hitler hating jews and you, and muslims are going to kill us all.

You know, 5 is way few for me right now.
Well, if I had to pick 5 CDs that I most dig right now...

King Crimson - Great Deceiver CD1 (live)
Captain Beefheart - Trout Mask Replica
ZHELANNAYA & MALERIA - 77RUS
DDT - Mir Nomer Nol'
Kirpichi - Sila Uma

By genre, well let's try to pigeonhole the above albums in order - prog rock, dada rock, Russian folk-prog with a dash of industrial, Russian rock with a dash of industrial, Russian rap/grunge hybrid.

Go figure, but I guess my ideal band would be progressive Russian folk-dada-rap with a dash of industrial

Apartment 26 - Hallucinating (Hard Rock/NuMetal/A lot. Just genius)
Marilyn Manson - Mechanical Animals (Hard Rock/Light Industriell)
Apartment 26 - Music for the Massive (Hard Rock/NuMetal/A lot. Just genius again...)
Slipknot - Subliminal Verses (NuMetal)
Korn - See You On The Other Side (Are they Crossover?)

Top 5 records are for me one of those, were just every song is great.
