ITT A Favorite Verse from a Song

So, what's a verse that sticks to you mind?

REM - Losing My Religion
verse two:
Every whisper
Of every waking hour I'm
Choosing my confessions
Trying to keep an eye on you
Like a hurt, lost and blinded fool
Oh no, I said too much
I set it up...
GeneshaSeal - Dead Seals for Free
Orgasm - It's a Science

Hold This Woe - Swallow The Sun

Chorus:
You stop to close his eyes
Just to recognize his pain
There is a way out of here
A chaos will you hear

Why do you laugh to torture me?
Cut me open and leave me for dead
And run away, let the blood run free
You disappear from me again

VAAAGUE

We only have to choose one? Unfair :(
Even if we presume something that just jumps out at you randomly, that would depend on my mood.

If I had to pick one that comes to mind most often to me lately -

DDT - STYX (verse two)

А на обрыве
Этой прыщавой реки
Да наблюдая
За дымящейся золой...
Я постирал
На завтра свои носки
Я предполагаю
Что буду живой

(translation)

And on the cliff
Over this blotched river
While observing
The smouldering ashes...
I washed for tomorrow
My only pair of socks
I am expecting
That I'll be alive

Hide and Seek -- Imogen Heap

"Mmm, what you say?
Mm, that you only meant well? Well, of course you did.
Mmm, what you say?
Mm, that it's all for the best? Ah of course it is.
Mmm, what you say?
Mm, that it's just what we need? And you decided this.
Mmm what you say?
What did she say?

Ransom notes keep falling out your mouth.
Mid-sweet talk, newspaper word cut-outs.
Speak no feeling, no I dont believe you.
You don't care a bit. You don't care a bit."

In the song, I just am in love with how she sings this part, and the wording imogen heap always uses for her songs.

Avril Lavigne - La(o)sing Grip :

[Chorus]
"Why should I care
'Cuz you weren't there when I was scared
I was so alone
You, you need to listen
I'm starting to trip, I'm losing my grip
And I'm in this thing alone"
:D I like laughter ;DD

Broadcast - Goodbye Girls, first verse:

Endless night
Laced with time
Under unreal light
With the goodbye girls
Pendant heart
Counterpart
Under unreal light
With the goodbye girls
Fraudulently they love you
Think of you

No more will my green sea go turn a deeper blue.
I could not foresee this thing happening to you.
If I look hard enough into the setting sun,
My love will laugh with me before the morning comes.

And I raise my glass, to those of you who give their piece of the cake
for free, for me to throw in the face of democracy
For those who help in making solidarity ideologically untrendy
And charity individualistically idiotic, unsmart and characteristically bendy
I salute thee you poor bastards 'cause you all nod while I sit at your table
So let's raise our glasses one last time, to give you all the greatest
recognition and credit of all times - cause after all, let's face it;
that's the only "thank you" you will ever get
So come on now - raise your glasses!
Here's to YOU
There will be nothing left - no!
Nothing left...
...but money

And now that Flint mentions politics, another one pops into my head (yes, a lot of my favorite lyrics will be from DDT - I can't overstate how culturally-relevant that band is to me)

DDT - Revolution

Два пальца вверх - это победа!
И это два пальца в глаза
Мы бъёмся насмерть во вторник за среду
Но не понимаем уже четверга

(translation)

Two fingers up - that's victory!
And that's two fingers in your eyes
We fight to the death on tuesday for wednesday
But we can't begin to understand thursday

haha

It seems DDT for you is Pain of Salvation for me. Shall we lyric-battle? :P

So smile for the King of Loss
Feed from the juices
Bleeding from this cross
Then tell me our lives mean more
Than this vain thirst!

Except it's not prog, but close enough. Certainly in terms of lyrical relevance, there's only a couple that approach them

(won't bother with the Russian text, don't think anyone's picking out rhymes here...)

DDT - I Received This Role

Sweetness nurtured the body
But soon the term had run out
He blindly approached the line
where everything's torn in an instant

And in the still eyes,
Turned to the beginning of roads
Hardened and eternally remained
The unborn scream

Alright, just one more for now, I promise. >.>

Pain of Salvation - "Beyond the Pale"

And love was there in vain, profound and deep but traced with pain - too early for a child of ten
Loving the pure and sane he sought the goddess unstained - watching them turn to flesh again
hungry for both the purity and sin
Life seemed to him merely like a gallery of how to be
And he was always much more human than he wished to be
But there is a logic to his world, if they could only see
Kusoyaro: We don't need a leader. We need to SHUT UP. Make what you want to make, don't make you what you don't want to make. If neither of those applies to you, then you need to SHUT UP MORE.

Come on, it's a lyrics duel for crying out loud :P

But one more from me:

DDT - Patzany ('Guys')

The boys died, terribly
The boys died, simply
And not each of them was outwardly handsome
And not all of them were of tall stature

But when they looked at me, these dusty men's eyes
Not like eyes of birds or sheep, they warmed me in a human way
And I sang them rock'n'roll songs, told them that everything will be OK
I yelled to them that we're all together -
But it just sounded awfully
Banal...

I'm fond of this:

Shall we dance the dance in sunlight?
Shall we drink the wine of peace?
Shall our tears be of joy?
Shall we keep at bay the beast?

(this thread is turning out to be more more fun than I thought. I'll be the first to admit that I may not digest overly-long lyrics posts too well - but the bite-sized versions are actually kinda nice)

Alright, and I'll switch my grammophone to...

David Sylvian - The Blinding Light of Heaven

I count the tables, she counts the trees
I tell her stories, she speaks of everything she sees
I'm in the shade, she's in the blinding light of heaven
