protected cd i want the music from

Postby batmanMG » Thu Feb 15, 2007 3:10 pm

ok say anything - was a real boy and is a real boy are like super protected and i can't get the music off of them... it doesn't let me rip them through any of the normal methods... i put the songs on my pc with the ripping thing on the cd itself... but i get them as unlicensed files that can't be played used or anything...

so my question is

is there any way or any where i can get the songs from the album without them being unusable?

band : say anything
album disc 1 : was a real boy
album disc 2 : is a real boy

or i got the order wrong... w/e hmmm wonder if anyone even knows who they are

If you really have to, you can use your soundcard and an audio editor to record the songs as they play live on your PC from the CD. If you have a Creative soundcard, set the volume to "What You Hear," and turn off anything else on your PC that makes noise. Use something like Audacity or Audition to record them as waves and go from there.

won't that kill a bit of the quality? im trying to get it as clean and fresh as possible so keeping the original tracks would be the most favorable option... but i'll check that out... TY

Well it depends on how much static noise you got going from other devices on your pc and also the quality of your soundcard to begin with....you might not even notice a difference, or you might hear a lot of hiss and you'll hate it and decide to destroy your pc altogether with a bat.

Other suggestions include downloading musicmatch 4 as it has been known to avoid the newer protection methods...and of course you could download the Alcohol 120% trial and give that a go.

This CD can still play on a normal CD player, right?

You could boot off a live Linux distro (say, Knoppix) so that it resides completely in RAM (type "linux toram" at the boot prompt) and mount a USB key for storage. Then use cdparanoia to rip the audio ("cdparanoia -Bw 2" for track #2, say), it should ignore all the DRM junk and dump a wav file.

I had this problem once.
Updating the firmware for the cd drive made everything work.
Think that could help?

nah... its the files on the cds themselves... they only play on either a cd player or through the program on the cds... im probably going to end up breaking down and downloading the songs from a legit source... like itunes or something like that...

Try EAC, available at http://www.exactaudiocopy.de

It's been able to unceremoniously shred through every copy protection scheme I've ever encountered.

And it's free. So good for you.

God damn, I totally forgot about that program. It's a miracle worker. You need to send a postcard to the guy to register, but it's well worth it.
