Favorite Live Albums

Postby RamonesFan2020204 » Sat Oct 14, 2006 11:51 pm

I'm not too crazy about live albums, but there ARE some that ARE worth listening to! Anyway, off the top of my head, my favorite live albums are:

Pink Floyd-Is There Anybody Out There?
Pink Floyd-A Delicate Sound of Thunder
Pink Floyd-PULSE
George Thorogood-Live
Rush-Rush in Rio
Billy Joel-12 Gardens Live
AC/DC-AC/DC Live+
Green Day-Bullet In A Bible+
Journey-Captured+
Dream Theater-Live At Budokan
Various Artists-The Concerts For The People of Kampuchea (I hope they reissue this on CD someday soon)

+-These really shouldn't be on my list, because I've only heard one or a few tracks off these, but the one or few I did hear were awesome.

Floyd and Dream Theater? Wow, you actually listed something decent for once.

I personally think you're retarded, but they're both good albums.

How the West was Won and the BBC Sessions both by Led Zeppelin. I own very few live albums, which is a little unfortunate since I usually really enjoy live recordings and of course concerts.

If it counts, then by and far King Crimson's "Great Deceiver" 4CD set.

A review of it was recently posted on AllAboutJazz:
http://www.allaboutjazz.com/php/article.php?id=23263

While a four-CD set of material culled from performances of songs from only three studio albums is bound to have some repetition, does anyone really need to hear four versions of “Easy Money”?

The answer is an unequivocal yes. Even twenty-four hours represent a significant difference in how this group approached form-based material. The June 29, 1974 version of “Easy Money” breaks down from its aggressive edge into a softer solo section that, unlike the studio version, never returns to a final verse. Instead, it gradually evolves into a vamp that pairs warm chordal work from Fripp and a mellotron flute solo from Cross. The following night—Crimson’s second-to-last show of its final tour before Fripp would dissolve the band (something nobody was aware of that point)—manages to find its way back to the final verse, but not before some frenzied high-octane soloing from Fripp threatens to completely unhinge the proceedings.

I love how Danny ELfman changed his songs around and just plane out game an awsome goodbye to all his bands fans.

Iron Maiden - Live at Rock in Rio
Iron Maiden - Live at Donnington
Blackmore's Night - Castles and Dreams
Skank - Ao Vivo em Ouro Preto
Pink Floyd - Pulse
Pink Floyd - The Wall
U2 - Go Home
The Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Live at Slane Castle
Tribuzy - Execution Tour: Live at São Paulo
Bruce Dickinson - Scream for Me Brazil

Pretty heterogenious, but good live concerts are always better than studio albums.

Huh? I'm not talking about the band. I'm talking about albums by other artists recorded live.
