Actually, to kind of clear that up -
Fripp is doing the windows sounds after being invited by Steve Ball, a big design dude at Microsoft. Steve Ball is a graduate of Fripp's "Guitar Craft" seminar, and participated in a bunch of his projects including The League of Crafty Guitarists.
Fripp also followed the footsteps of his old friend and music partner Brian Eno, who did the sounds for Windows 95 in the same way.
That said, noone is denying that financial incentive got him to do it. But what you can't say, after watching that session, is the Fripp isn't just doing his normal out-there soundscaping stuff - selling out would be if he started playing for Blink 182 or something
