Blink and Green Day are not considered pure punk bands by many. Most people classify Blink, Green Day, Sum 41, etc. as "pop-punk," punk rock for the masses.

Bands that are considered true punk bands by many are bands such as Pennywise, MXPX, Craig's Brother, Millencolin, Donots, A, anti-flag, bad religion, pipedown, beatsteaks, 98 mute, Sex Pistols, Stiff Little Fingers, DK, Black Flag, the Circle Jerks, the Ramones, etc. etc. etc.

Not saying I don't like Blink, Green Day, Sum 41...I do listen to their stuff and I think it's pretty neat. Just saying that they're usually considered more pop punk than true punk.

greenday used to be considered punk rock, but like you I listen to their stuff and like it, hell I'm making a sum 41 vid right now. But some of my favorite bands are the used, finch, thursday, thrice, taking back sunday, rufio (<a little on the emo side I know>) sugarcult, and further seems forever, so I do have a pretty good understanding of punk rock.

Gotcha. The fact that you mentioned only Green Day and Blink as punk rock bands made me think you were one of those people who have a skewed view of punk rock. My many apologies.

One thing about punk...I personally listen to it not because I really believe the ideals. In fact, many of the things those bands say are almost humorous in their ignorance of the real world. But I do like their idealism. I also just love the music of punk rock...driving guitars, really neat drum stuff...just like hte music more than the attitude.

Great music to listen to if you're feeling down and kinda hate the world at that moment.

Going back to Jimmy Eat World though, you could make the argument that they are a "Punk" band. Even though they are on a major now, they were the kings of the indy-punk scene with at.the.drive-in for a couple of years. They did come from punk rock roots. Just because they don't sound like 1980's So Cal bands doesn't mean they aren't punk.

Yeah, I must step down there. I really haven't heard much of their early stuff, so I'm not one to judge. I spoke too quickly.

Yeah, I listen to punk rock because of the music. It really sounds great most of the time. I really like rufio's guitarist clark. He may just be the best guitarist I've ever heared.

punk is dead. it started dying around 1994 and kicked the bucket last year when joey ramone died.

the ramones arent "considered" punk. they ARE punk rock. them, the clash, the sex pistols. everything else is gravy.

i still think that youre not a punk rock band if you have good musicianship.

These two contradict each other. Fight amongst yourselves....

punk rock isn't dead, it's far from it, you're an idiot. New bands form everyday, and some of the best punk rock bands today are the underdogs. You appearently don't know anything about punk rock, and besides, in 1994 you were 7, what did you know then, or about the "fall of punk" as you put it. Go listen to some real bands, punk rock is still very much active, and the bands that fill that genre are simply awsome.

the dude has no idea what he's talking about, I looked into him. He thinks he's in a band. They don't play any music of their own, he's a punk 15 year old kid, and the other members in his band are even younger. Like 12 and 13 or something. They just play songs like blinks dammit, and what ever else they feel like attempting to reproduce. He makes his images with paint, he has a pretty large list of music videos and not one is accessible. None of them are up for download or have links in their info, and all his site talks about is how they're a bunch of little kids playing other peoples music.

This kid's a joke.

"stop whining" is one of rufio's best songs, but if you want to hear his guitar, check out "above me"
