Japanese lyric matching

Postby Akai HIkari » Thu Nov 21, 2002 8:58 am

what do people think about it? is there a point in matching lyrics which are in jap in an amv? i'm assuming most people aren't fluent in jap...so should you steer away from jap songs? or should you post the english translated lyrics in your comments?
just wondering what the general feeling of it was...

Well, I've seen several videos in non-English languages where they used the song more for the feeling the song as a whole evokes than what the lyrics are actually saying. An example of this is House on the Moon by aluminumstudios. It uses the second ending theme from Outlaw Star, Tsuki no Ie, with Outlaw Star and is essentially a look at all of the characters that focuses on mood and style and rather then telling as story. It's very dreamy and slow, and I love it.

As for lyric matching, I say go for it if you want. However, if people don't speak the language, they may not get the significance of the synch. That goes for English-language songs as well as Japanese, German, Italian, whatever. It's up to you if you want to post a lyric translation or not. That might be rather lengthy and tedious if not done properly.

hmm i guess you do have to concentrate on the 'feel' of the video rather than as you say story-telling. But i just wonder if jap songs are that slightly disadvantaged, in a way that it's that much more limited. Most people probably won't be too conscious about it...but it's always nice to see the odd lyric match at the right time.
