instrumental song suggestions?

When I'm more awake, I can probably think of quite a few things, but I guess it depends on what sort of AMV you're looking to make - are you looking more into the action direction or athmospheric weirdness? Weird rock or weird non-rock?

In the rock direction, from King Crimson, "Larks' Tongues in Aspic Part 2" was a good suggestion to look at. In a similar vein, "Red", "VROOOM", "VROOOM VROOOM" would do good, too. Nicely structured, still essentially odd.

There's a lot of structured KC material that's weirder and more interesting than that, and I'd love to see in an AMV, but it's honestly very difficult to approach. Try "Level Five" and see if you can come up with a good way to AMV it without going crazy. It's very complex technically, and also a bit on the long side (and hard to crop). In a similar vein, many of the most interesting King Crimson pieces are very unapproachable ("Larks Tongues in Aspic Part I/III/IV", "Fracture", "ConstruKction of Light").

Then we come to "unstructured", and I wouldn't know where to begin. I'd suggest looking at the ProjeKcts music (ProjeKct 1 through ProjeKct 5, and ProjeKct X), which is where "The Wasteland" track came from - though generally, what you'd find is very strange, athmospheric, improvised music. The problem with giving concrete suggestions on it is, among other things, that many of their tracks don't have proper titles

Anyway, tell us what type of AMV you're looking at. There's many different things people can do with instrumentals, and not all at the same time!

i'm wanting to make a prince of tennis AMV of ryoma basically growing up from when he was only decent, to the powerhouse he is at the end of the series.

i listened to basically nothing but aphex twin music for about a good two years, play drums, play bemani games, and i synch songs so anally (i.e. for ONE SOUND i will replay over the soundfile and get it down to the millisecond in premiere by checking it through the sound editor over and over) so complexity of track is no problem.

i'm wanting a sort of piece again like the song in the wasteland, but without so many gaps in the song, although still some are desired.

i want to have a song that starts off somewhat slow and by the end is totally chaotic and mindbending and then just hits the brakes and goes into calmness again.

a good example of what i'm talking about would be the songs by mogwai called:

"i can't remember" (that's the actual name)
"golden porsche"
"i know who you are but what am i"

all combined with a high energy aphex twin song. that would be pretty much exactly what i'm looking for. =P i'll look up the songs you guys suggested though.

can't seem to find anything from the projeckt series on limewire: anyone have any suggestions as to where to find it? that link someone gave me for the band " Level Five " is broken, i think.

oh, as a side note, i also would like to stay away from the "techno pop" sound.

i.e. DDR song type sounds, or those techno songs where they ONLY have a quick drum and bass line basically, again i'm going for a more almost atmospheric, melodic, orchestral feeling here, but not TOO much on the orchestral "church" vibe or whatever, but i don't want some tinny sounding song that sounds like it was made by fruity-loops.

i listened to all of the king crimson songs you guys suggested and a few others, and that's not really what i'm looking for. :-/

they were all really abusing the high pitched guitar, while the wasteland song seemed to only have it in a few places, and it was by itself instead of surrounded by drums.

i would want more than anything more violin or regular guitar or something like that in the song, sort of like...

i have a hikaru no go AMV where the song is a modern remix of this song where the main lyrics are "oh lord, please don't let me be misunderstood" and it has this violin and harpish kind of sound in it but somewhat rhythmic also, if you got that song, made it much more erratic in rhythm (i.e. going from 3/18ths to 5/4ths or something, dream-theater-esque in off-beatness rhythm)...

and then added in aphex twin electronica sounds like hard, violent pitched sounds out of nowhere but gone in an instant, but not actually FOLLOWING the melody (i.e. not going in a steady beat with the song), and then had some background sounds a'la Mogwai's songs that i mentioned in the last post (quiet piano and deep, electronically modified bass guitar)...

that would be PERFECT. of course if such a song exists who knows XD

In that case, I'd like to suggest some of the tracks from the Now and Then, Here and There soundtrack. Particularly "Rescuer" and "Fearful Dream".

Sounds like you're going to have to remix your own song.

If you want something real heavy/fast, try "The Sons of Anu" by Derek Sherinian (or maybe it was his band Planet X, can't remember). It's got a mellow part in the middle that builds up to a really nice heavy part, but it's fraught with soloing. You also might try Gordian Knot's "Muttersprache," Adagio's "Niflheim" (has some violin), or Apocalyptica's "Kaamos" (obviously lots of cello). That's all I can think of that might fit.
Kusoyaro: We don't need a leader. We need to SHUT UP. Make what you want to make, don't make you what you don't want to make. If neither of those applies to you, then you need to SHUT UP MORE.

xeno, your songs weren't really what i was looking for; there weren't nearly enough instruments in each song, no offense. :-/

someone suggested "muse" a while ago on a different thread i think; anyone got any instrumental song suggestions under that vibe? or even just lyrics in general that go with:

agression
winning
game
playing
attacking
destruction
the best
domination

etc.

How about any of these:

"Scuttle Buttin'" by Stevie Ray Vaughn

"F**kin' in the Bushes" by Oasis

Some tunes by the late, great Link Wray:
"Mustang"
"Deuces Wild"
"Bo Diddley"
"The Black Widow"
"If at first you don't succeed, try, try again...then quit and get tanked."

Berke Breathed, "Bloom County."

Personally, I'll ALWAYS love the Apocalyptica version of Hall of the Mountain King, but that's just because they're awsome and I love that song anyway. Anyway, in addition to Kaamos, I reccommend Inquisition Symphony and Betrayal/Forgiveness is pretty good, too... or Harmagedon...

Basically almost anything by them is good
