There's a flaw in your logic. You assume that popularity implies good. Going Quadruple Platinum is merely a sign that a lot of people bought the CDs. Just because a lot of people like it, doesn't necessarily make it good. Art, in any form (music, drawings, AMVs, etc.) is extremely subjective and open to the interpretation of the viewer. What one person likes, another may loathe. The Harry Potter movie made a crapload of money. A lot of people liked it. I thought it was mediocre at best, and didn't really have much going for it aside from special effects. To say that anything popular must be good is herd mentality. The Pillows (Japanese alterna-punk band) will probably never be popular in America (not even sure how popular they are in Japan, I'll have to check on it), but they make some damn good music. Good is in the mind of the viewer, or listener, not an inherent quality of the record sales.

I'd appreciate some samples of their versatility, because all of the song's I've listened to pretty much lend themselves to videos focusing on futility (In The End), rage (One Step Closer), insanity (Crawling), paranoia (Papercut), and other negative emotions. I have never heard a Linkin Park song that lent itself to a positive mood.

I would have to agree with what has been said before, that the primary reason a lot of people have been turned negative against LP videos is the over-use of the band's songs. When something has been experienced too much, it loses appeal. I sometimes find myself wanting to just throw away my mix discs because I've listened to the songs too many damn times and I get sick of them, even though I love them. Granted, I'm not one of those people who can watch something over and over again endlessly. I need a break. I can't listen to even My Iron Lung or Blues Drive Monster (two of my favorite songs) too much without needing a break from it.
I have a story that may interest you. My first video was made with Cowboy Bebop and Chop Suey by System of a Down. Second to Dragonball Z and Linkin Park in over-use and people being sick of the combo. I liked the video a lot (I still do, probably nostalgia and a clouded perspective), but when I put it up on the site, I got a couple reviews where people blasted me for unoriginality of song/anime combo. One review even went like this, verbatim.
Good: None
Bad: Crap
General: Poo
So, I can empathize with people calling my work bad based upon their personal feelings towards the band and/or the combo used.
Another guy was extremely direct in his view and his assessment. "You're talented, but this video completely lacks originality." It's human nature. You see something too often, and it gets so you are just sick of seeing it.
On a side note, I want to say that, in my opinion, you won't get much of anywhere by being rude and insulting. I can understand that you're pissed about people blanketing all LP vids as crap just because they do not like the band, and not based upon the merits of the individual videos at all, but you won't get anywhere by being intensely negative towards the entire forum and insulting everyone else's personal tastes in music. The adamant anti-LPers are the minority, not the majority. Not everyone here goes off on rants against this-or-that band or singer. Everyone has different tastes in music, anime, hell, everything. The key is accepting that other people like different things and not forcing what you like upon them.
Sadly, we can't all be me.
