it really depends on what kind of rap is used. i not a big fan of rap, only because there are too much cursing in most of them and all they do is rap about the same dam thing. if you want a good example of how rap music should be used in a amv then i suggest you look at megaman917 amvs, he does it properly. also if your talking about if they use rap in an animation, then yes i do hate it. all of the songs are really cheesze such as, one piece, dragonball gt and list just goes on.

Do you mean in AMVs like Tainted Donuts, or in anime like One Piece?

Both can/could work, but won't always work.

Well to me rap is all good but with anime it might go bad. You have to have a good rap song not with cusing and talking about pimps. More like the song Hate It Ot Love It by The Game ft 50 Cent

This guy did a tribute to rap music with the anime naruto but he made it for fun and it sucked the point is when you use rap songs that shoudn't use your videos will get bad reviews. (Sorry Peyton :P )

That is true they could be used for good AMV's but sometimes people don't like rap like I did a video with Ranma 1/2 and the song was Ch-Check It Out by the Beastie Boys and it got bad reviews cause i could have used a better song. So I guess it depends on what type of rap song you use

Did someone say my name?

Anyway, I am a big fan of rap music and listen to it more than any other genre of music. I don't mind all the cursing, pimp talk, or violent lyrics; in fact, I love to hear it. As far as AMVs go it doesn't matter me what kind of rap song is used as long as it is used properly. When it comes to rap AMVs, especialy when it comes to rap AMVs, the song and series really need to fit together. When I make my rap AMVs, I try make it my business to use rap songs that haven't been used here at the org, which gives me an edge in originality. I personally believe that not every rap song can or should be used. For example I can't see Eminem's "Kim" being used in an AMV, unless there's actually an anime where a man slits his wife's throat for cheating on him or something. Another example would be any kind rap song that comemorates the dead like P. Diddy's "I'll be Missing You". To me, any AMV to a song like that is kind of unethical. 8-)

One more thing:
If you don't have any understanding of hip-hop or hip-hop culture, then you have no business making a rap AMV.

To all the haters out there, read the first quote in my sig.
I get the feeling that all the haters are going to come here and start bashing rap music because they hate it.

I think that's too extreme. If you were making an AMV about rap culture, yes. Otherwise - it's all just inherent and delineated. Music itself has enough content to give you an idea of how to make an AMV to it, if you want.

I can't believe that this was done 2½ years ago...Beo, you're an old man :P

If you're looking for anime itself that uses rap music, check out Samurai Champloo. As for rap in AMVs, it does seem to be different trying to edit to rap as opposed to rock or pop, let's say. Lyric sync is harder, because not many anime have scenes in them that can relate to rap lyrics, unless you're going for a cheap comedy. You don't want the video to degrade into just lip syncing, and beat syncing get kinda hard too, because most everything is just repeated. It takes a good rap song to make a good rap AMV, and by good rap song, I mean one that can be used (has story, variety, something), not saying that most rap sucks.

When I made Natural Born Killers, I flew out to L.A. to immerse myself in the hip-hop culture and way of life. The results speak for themself.

I would like to retract this statement, because there are some AMV creators who do understand hip-hop and its culture, and yet put out some garbage hip-hop AMVs. I've seen AMVs that use rap songs about guns with anime like Naruto and Bleach, which are about martial arts, (correct me if I'm wrong, because I have yet to see either anime). Where's the connection? I've seen others that focus on lip sync, and more that were out of sync with the song being used. These same creators, whose names I will not mention, think they're the shit when they're not. These folks are going to get a reality check when those opinions start coming in.
