1: Death - "Empty Words" (Chuck's main solo)
2: Metallica - "Orion" (final dual-lead section)
3: Slayer - "Angel of Death" (whole solo section, Kerry and Jeff both)
4: Helloween - "I Want Out" (Kai's whole solo section)
5: Hypocrisy - "Adjusting the Sun" (Pete's solo from dead stop on)

Shin Hatsubai is a Premiere-free studio. Insomni-Ack is habitually worthless.

Hmm... gotta think a while on this one! I'm judging these on just how amazing it sounded to me when I first heard it. But they also all had to get better as I realized how good they actually were.

Well here they are in no particular order.

1. "Don't Fear the Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult

It's the part where the guitar is really mellow and creepy and then it explodes into the amazing solo. What a great solo.

2. "My Friend of Misery" by Metallica

This was hard because I only wanted to choose one Metallica song. I had to choose between this, "To Live is to Die," "Pulling Teeth," "Orion," and Call of Ktulu". That wasn't easy, but I chose this because the others are just too awesome. So it starts at about 3:30 and goes on for about a minute and a half. I love the ambient/echoing sound of the guitar.

3. "1776" by Iced Earth

This is an instrumental, but the whole thing is almost one great solo. This took precedence over Megadeth's "Into the Lungs of Hell".

4. "Dueling Banjos" by Eric Weissberg with Steve Mandell

I think this is the one off of the Deliverance soundtrack. But how could you not be amazed by this? It was freakin' mind blowing. I believe it was originally titled "Feudin' Banjos" and written by Arthur Smith in the '50s.

5. "Leyenda (Legend)"by Charo

I don't know why I was listening to Charo. I had never considered it before and then all of a sudden it was in. But this song was just great. A lot of the songs were actually. I think I've heard a lot of different versions in movies and stuff, but this was the first time I'd actually heard the song on CD. I think I can definately consider this whole song as a great solo.

The problem is that this leaves out a ton of bands that made some amazing solos or riffs. Pantera has a few with "Cemetary Gates" and "Floods" and some other songs. Slayer also has a few. But since I don't generally like most of their songs, I didn't include them. And then there's a ton of symphonic Black Metal that has some simply inhuman solos.

And then there's the classics like Zeppelin, Floyd, Hendrix, Santana, Satriani, Eric Johnson, and a ton of others.

And I know I'm forgetting a ton too. There's just so many.

It's been such a long time since I've heard this. I believe I've actually only heard the original one though, and it's...crazy, for lack of a better word.

The only one I can think of right now is the solo for 'No Leaf Clover' by Metallica. I just love the solo in the middle of the song. It just sounds so nice.
