New Music is ruining my life.....

I CAN'T STAND ALL THIS HIP-HOP AND NEW METAL CRAP ANYMORE... IN THE OLD DAYS... (A FEW MONTHS AGO) IT WAS SAFE TO WEAR A PINK FLOYD SHIRT AND NOT BE CONSIDERED GAY. I'M EVEN BEING CRITIZED BY THESE GHETTO WANNABES (WHITE PEOPLE WHO WISH THEY WERE BLACK) ABOUT BANDS LIKE BLACK SABBATH AND METALLICA. WHAT HAPPENED? PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME OUT....... :?:

I think I sorta can relate. My brother makes fun of me for liking the Stone Temple Pilots, The Police, and Radiohead. Meanwhile, his favorite bands include Hoobastank, Linkin Park, and System of a Down. Not that I am in a position to make fun of him for that, I'm a fan of those bands, too. *Prepares for rotting projectiles*

I'm not a big fan of music from this half of the world anymore. I tend to find my bands in europe. Then, people will come up to me and say "what the hell are you listening to? It sounds awesome."

Bam.. more metal fans.

First, affirm your like of your music to them. Then, stump them, maybe? Ask them where these "nu-metal" bands will be in 10 years. Will they be as well hailed as "Master Of Puppets", for instance, or will they be in thrift shop CD bins with Britney Spears and everyone else?

Beyond that, don't take it personally. When they get older, they'll hit a depressive stage where they realize they can't keep up with the new stuff without seeming ridiculous, and their old stuff will seem stupid. Whereas you, who have stayed in the past with more timeless music, will be looked at as a connoisseur.

It's all about opinions and preference! ^_^
Your music is your music.
No one can tell you not to listen to it. But some people may complain about the "Loudness" of said music... Oh well....
More power to you!
Listen to what you want, no one person will ever change that. Only yourself.

My taste of music might be the weirdest here in the forums, and I like the music I listen too. People have told me to 'get with it' but I don't care what they think. So why should you listen to thos ghetto wannabes and be free and like the music you like! And don't listen to people who tell you to listen/not listen to music, cuz they are ALWAYS wrong!

Aside from what others have been saying. It may also be something to realize that giving music a single listen can easily cause you not to like it, and given that we've heard all of this crap so many times we know its crap (excuse my coarse language). But they on the other hand have not heard the good old fine stuff and don't understand (maybe some day they will, but there brains will shrink before that age-- not really just poking fun).

I think its important to mix the new with the old.

Personally I think Metallica has some really awesome stuff, but for me most of their stuff is just OK. My favorite band may be a band most people don't really like or know beyond one or two of their "middle period" albums i.e. REM (Blink 182 is actually tied with them for favorite, I just can't choose, just can't choose)

I also love Radiohead, Beatles, Zepplin, Billy Joel, Green Day, Jack Johnson, anime music, Beethoven, well I could go on and on, you get the idea, there are still a lot of great bands out there, whether or not you personally consider them timeless. You should give some new bands a try, but like others said it is impossible to keep up (damn them, damn them all) especially if you spend a significant time watching anime videos :)

Someone should may a video based on Bush's Golden State CD, Bones and I think "the ones we love (name?)" (well it begins speed kills coming down the.... you get the idea if you heard it you would know)

One of those two videos (maybe to Tenchi or various, don't know)

Sorry for the out of topic digression.

In my location, the radio's keep on playing so much R&B that i have stopped even listening to those damned radios. I use to like some R&B but now I hate it. I hate all of it. I keep expecting some variety, but every song they ever play is R&B, and next R&B, and nect R&B.....etc.
