Hm... awsome song

I´m listening to Insomnium´s "In the Halls of Awaiting"
Well I´m kinda possessed by their sound it´s my favorite band (since 3years now) and it never gets boring. In my eyes it´s the best song ever made, it´s simply the best song, it has catchy melodies and lyrics and it´s 11:05, so there isn´t any point to complain about. By the way the album (In the Halls of Awaiting) is also one of the best CDs ever recorded (Finnvox ^^).
I think nobody here will know the band (ok maybe some melo-deathmetal fans from skandinavia)... sad ...

tiny_faerie_queen wrote:My latest discovery is a band from Newfoundland called Great Big Sea. These guys rock! I don't know how to describe their music. It's rock, but different. Very upbeat and fun. They do an awesome version of Drunken Sailor. Has anyone ever heard of them?

I've seen these guys on CBC, yeah. They got some funky instruments, to boot. I can't say I was uber-impressed with them musically, but they were very entertaining and put on a very good show.

King Crimson - THRaKaTTaK
(album)

This is it. THE Halloween album, if there ever was one. A terrifying, volatile mix of improv ingeniously fused together as one piece. Identifying tracks in here, save the THRAK intro/outro is nearly futile; identifying what's actually going on in your stereo is even more difficult. But it's scarier than anything you've probably ever heard.

Among KC fans, this is known as 'The Difficult Listening Hour' and 'Music to have nightmares to'. Listening to this in a dark room late at night is the ultimate experience.

Drumkits falling down the stairs, chickens, chickens on pianos and pianos on chickens, screaming cats and glockenspiel, and the deafening wall of THRAKking noise are all present, and then some. As are tracks with titles like Slaughter of the Innocents and Mother Hold The Candle Steady While I Shave The Chicken's Lip. As are 4 guitarists and two drummers, somewhere in there (although most of the time you won't know that, as what is actually heard is not nearly reminiscent of what one might associate with any kind of ordinary instruments).

I have made a THRaKaTTaK video for fun once...

But anyways, an hour of much-welcome terror tonight

Bone Thugs N Harmony - Crossroads.
Korn - Dead Bodies Everywhere.
Evanescence - Bring Me To Life.
Utada Hikaru - First Love.
Smashing Pumpkins - With Every Light.
TATU - All The Things She Said.
Blackmore Night - Wish You Were Here.
Savage Garden - Truly, Madly, Deeply.

Basically I'm listening to my AMV while I do other things.

Nothing Halloween centered...

Sonata Arctica - "White Pearl, Black Oceans"

Good epic metal. I now have craving to see this used in an AMV. But, it would have to be done by someone who's good and an equally epic anime would be needed...

Björk, Medulla
I don't know if anyone else has picked up Björk's new CD, but it's really fucking good. It's all vocals (mostly, anyway, with a lot of programming and production tricks), so it does sound a lot different from anything on commercial radio. The crazy part about it is how accessible it is for an album as strange as it is. If that makes sense.

ProjeKct X - Strange Ears Aging Rapidly

Hilarious name aside, this is yet another excellent offering from the Heaven and Earth CD. ProjeKct X's sound isn't easy to describe, and it varies from the original four ProjeKcts somewhat - even in the fact that it's a studio recording, and uses this fact to every advantage, even if the live stuff by the previous four may seem more dynamic.

And, of course, Belew's wailing whammy-bar playing abound! That guy will never run out of ways to pull out the most satisfyingly irritating sounds out of those poor instruments...

The CD is a uniformly good collection of freeform improvs, save the title track which goes above and beyond and easily gets on KC's all-time best studio tracks list.

"Another Brick In The Wall" - Pink Floyd

Recently I've been listening to this band quite a bit.

Oto, you proud of me and my prog rock tastes?

:¬ \
I'm bored and you're dumb. A match made in heaven.

Floyd isn't exactly prog.

/prog argument inducing statement

Evergrey - In Search of Truth - "Watching the Skies"

Who'd have thought a dark prog metal album about alien abduction could be so awesome.

GWEN STEFANI ~ "What You Waiting For?"

This song is oddly captivating.
It makes you want to dance and party all night...
But if you find a hidden meaning in the words then it makes you think.
A nice song and a good departure from No Doubt.

Good question, I don't know whether you can call 'floyd Prog per se or not. In terms of the prog movement of the 70's, they are slightly off to the side there. In terms of progressivity... close enough...

Anyways, good one; although I have to admit I don't listen to much Pink Floyd, myself.
