The Blood Brothers, Burn, Piano Island, Burn
One of the best hardcore records ever made, if you're still willing to call it hardcore. The two singers frequently break into "real singing," which seems akin to Wayne Newton filtered through Darby Crash. And the guitar really sounds like two guitars, especially considering all the feedback and dissonance. If I were to make a hardcore album, I'd probably use this and Refused's Shape of Punk to Come as my two primary reference points.

Browsing through a large collection of old anime theme songs, opening songs, closing songs, etc.

Currently: love theme from 3X3 Eyes.

Also, "Fate" (Sailor Moon), "Believe" (Ghost Sweeper Mikami), opening and ending songs from Nurse Angel Ririka, Shamanic Princess...some Saint Tail, Saber Marionette....

Seems like the magical girl genre gets all the best j-pop.

Ace Comabt 4 OST - "Megalith ~Agnus Dei~"

Has a very epic feel to, esp. with the chorus chanting.

Very fitting to the level (last level of the game).

Ace Combat 4 kicked ass, I can't wait for Ace Combat 5.

Am I the only one that got this OST?

King Crimson - Three of a Perfect Pair, Live in Japan (part I of 'Neil and Jack and Me' DVD)

AAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!
WHAAAT?????
NOUOUOOO!!!

Holy fuck.

I'm sorry, but 80's KC will never be the same to me since I bought this DVD as a 'present' to myself today....

...my god! It's just incredible to watch them live.

I realize I'm biased, but, I was literally screaming (very loudly) at the screen when Fripp pulled some incredible guitar work at the end of LTIA III. I mean, I never thought as much of this band as of my more favorite versions of KC. And now it amazes me to the point of making me scream at the screen from the top of my lungs :?

Anyways, if you think good bands from the 70's became crap when they changed style in the 80's, or that 80's music sucks in general, give this a spin, and you'll be proven wrong within a few songs. If you're a fan of the 80's and want to see something that gives things a slightly more adventurous whirl - you've seen the rest, NOW don't walk - RUN to get this baby, and see the best. I think it just came out last week

/recovering from euphoria of newfound musical interest and best listening experience in ages. *phew*

Symphony X - "Candlelight Fantasia"

I haven't heard such a well put together song in such a long time. Amazing...
I'm bored and you're dumb. A match made in heaven.

Wow! I'm impressed by the variety of music. Clinton, System of a Down, Black Flag, and Zappa. I am honored to know that people are eclectic.

I listen to those myself. Right now I am listening to alot of Static X and Soulfly/Sepultura and Rammstein in the hard scene. I am also mellowing out with The Corrs, Tori Amos, and Suzanne Vega.

My newest experience is with a group called Symphony X. Its orchestrated metal. Really good stuff. I recommend it.
I am the mostly Togusa Human.

Ronnie James Dio - Holy Diver

Ever since Otohiko's release of Holy Diver I just cant get that song out of my head from time to time.
The song is upbeat and just great. Its has an addicting rythmn and beat that sounds fantastic.

Thinking of buying the CD>

The CD cover looks appealing to me for some reason.

I'm glad it had that kind of an effect. I recommend the CD - well, that song is the best one on it, in my opinion, but if you want more of similarly-catchy hard rock/metal, the whole thing provides it in quantity and quality

Emerson, Lake and Palmer - Brain Salad Surgery (album)

Prog rock at its' most pretentious/classical-influenced. Whatever you think of the band, there are several albums (this one included) by ELP that I wouldn't trade for anything... Certainly, these are 3 very talented musicians pulling some very impressive instrumental work.

I agree, I have loved their work since I first heard it, when I was in college. I think Pictures at an Exhibition is a great album. I wish I could do an amv to the vocal piece, the lyrics have such a compelling, timeless quality for me. It's slow, and with the instrumental breaks is over six minutes, quite a challenge. Been thinking Escaflowne, the lyrics seem to fit in many ways.

Right now I'm listening to Procol Harem Live, from 1971. Conquistador was their hit single but Whaling Stories and Salty Dog are great songs. It must have been some concert, wish I had been there.
Where did you say I'm going?.... And what am I doing in a handbasket?

I finally found CDs of both Brain Salad Surgery and Pictures At An Exhibition; it was harder than I expected. I wouldn't call these my favrotie CDs, but they are interesting. As I was listening to PaaE, I thought it would make a good collaborative project for an album-based series of AMVs - excluding perhaps the last song which was just an encore anyway. There's enough of a fantasy feel to the whole thing that several anime could be made to work with the pieces. I haven't thought any further about it than that, however.

Currently listening to...Blank & Jones In Da Mix for April 2004 on Digitally Imported. These guys are so good.......

KMFDM - "Juke Joint Jezebel"

Dancy sorta song with raspy vocals. Good stuff.

"Be mine sister salvation
Juke Joint Jezebel is coming for my creamation
Be mine sister salvation
Closer now - see the revelation"

Note, all of the above is sung in a mass band choir.

I'd jump on that project right away. The other question is my lacking footage, but seeing how it's my favorite ELP album, and one of my favorites ever... I'd definitely be happy to work with it.

anyways...

Gentle Giant - On Reflection

More 70's prog for me! In all honesty though, this is the band I believe to be the best of the whole movement, and, sadly, one of the most underrated. I also consider them to be the most musically-talented group I've ever heard - and they're very subtle about it. But when you look on the back of, say, this 'Playing the Fool' live record, you realize that every one of these 5 guys is listed as playing something like a half-dozen different interests.
The song is an interesting demonstration of their live ability - in 6 minutes they go from a renaissance string band to a mini-choir to a 70's rock band - and seamlessly at that! Amazing stuff...

Err, instruments.

Gentle Giant - Excerpts from Octopus.

Nice way to pack highlights of one of my favorite albums into a 15-minute live track.
