Victor Zinchuk - Summer Storm

A russian classical guitarist gone electric covers a section of Vivaldi's famous work. Some neat, speedy shredding, if I say so myself.

Rank One - Airwave

It is a kind of super trance techno song. Not something you would dance to, more of an ultimate pick me up type of song I guess. Reminds me of the battle scenes in lord of the rings for some reason, just has that kind of feel to me. Very good before a sporting event.

Rachmaninov - Prelude in C Minor

Because my brother is doing an AMV to it and I'm feeding him anime sugestions.

Also because it is an awesome song that consists of three parts:

1) dark brooding part

2) fast exiting part

3) bang the shit out of the piano until you can hear the whole thing vibrating like crazy.

I am listening to the DNC's Obama. The speech he gave last night was great.

Now who said rap lovers were stupid?

Hellz yes, easily the class speech of the night. It's a good thing that non-corporate media isn't completely extinct in the US, because even the liberal flagship paper here in Boston, the Globe, gave him only the same three-by-five block that every other speaker got, while draping Ted Kennedy's stuff across two whole pages. Thank you PBS for actually covering stuff, so that people don't miss the important parts.

Ofcourse it's not like it'll matter in the long run....in eight years when he's completed a term in the Senate, he'll get more than enough press headlining one of these.

ontopic:
I left my damn headphones home today (was listening to Void of Silence, Iced Earth, and Behemoth way late last night), but if I had them plugged in, I'd be listening to Running Wild's "Conquistadores". A lot of catchy riffs (including the terminally cool intro bass solo), and a nice chunk of lyrics about Spain's bad behavior in the their invasion of the Americas.

"Conquistadores
They fight for gold
Doing as religious madmen told"

The grammar's about at the level you'd expect from German rock'n'rollers, but the song and the sentiments are cool nonetheless.

Lords of Acid - Speedracer [porn mix]

First, a very very very very very VERY very very very big shout-out to gODIX. I love you now. Keep reading.

Long story behind this one. When I was six (I think...) my dad had this cassette. On this cassette were several mixes of the Speedracer theme song, as well as some spiffy mixes containing random Speedracer lines in then. I really liked it, not least for the music, but because I was six and I was into Speedracer.

But there was a song at the end that my dad'd never let me listen to. He'd always stop the tape, rewind it, and we'd listen to it again from the beginning. Well, I've since put two and two together and figured out why.

However, the tape was lost long ago, probably left in a car we sold to a dealership or something. So I never got to actually HEAR this song. Kind of a dissapointment my dad and I've shared for a long time now.

Now, here I am really early in the morning, watching gODIX's latest vid, when I inadvertantly decide to comb WinMX for music by Lords of Acid. Imagine my suprise when I find, of all things, what sounds exactly like (going by the name of the song) what was on our long-lost tape. Imagine my suprise, still, when it was, indeed, the song I was looking for! My dad's gonna blow his little gourd when he wakes up and sees this song waiting for him.

...

Oh, a description of the song? Well, have you seen Speedracer? Do you know what porn generally sounds like? Yes? Good, then just put two and two together... Yeah, it's like that. You can lift your jaw off the floor now.

Robert Fripp - Returning I

A brief soundscape from 'A Blessing of Tears', a deep, touching album of this odd form of ambient music dedicated to the memory of Robert's mother, who died in 1993.
Robert's soundscapes are among the most misunderstood and undervalued forms of pure musical genius. If it wasn't so, people wouldn't be booing them at the recent G3 European tour concerts. They are produced using a guitar the signal of which is fed through a synthesizer, and then to a complex series of loop-delay effects which create an autonomous, ambient musical piece that has no real time signature and vague, floating harmony. It's difficult to explain how to listen to them right since there is no one right way of listening to them; but listening to them actively and considerately has produced some of my own best musical experiences.

Anyways, that's all for today's 'Oto's pretentious music' edition

Kawaii Radio.

I found this link on [MOD: Link removed. Do not link to fansub sites.], and haven't stopped listening to it since. It's got music from various anime and video game soundtracks, JPop, CPop, and KPop. The only problem I have is that I seem to keep hearing the same songs, or remixes thereof. But then again, I've spent a lot of time listening to them recently.

They do have hours devoted to requests, though I haven't tried requesting anything. They also seem to have quite a huge collection of music, even though they play a few more than others.
